Racing Incident Report
While in the saddling stalls, CHOSEN ONE was kicked in the chest by PEACH BLOSSOM. CHOSEN ONE was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon who said the horse was lame in the right front leg and as such was not suitable to race. Acting on this advice, the Stewards ordered the withdrawal of CHOSEN ONE. Before being allowed to race again, CHOSEN ONE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. After arriving at the Start, it was noted the tongue tie fitted to SOLDIER ON had loosened. Before SOLDIER ON was loaded, the tongue tie was refitted. After being boxed, CROISSANT became fractious and reared up. The horse was removed from its barrier and examined by the Veterinary Surgeon who said in his opinion it was suitable to race. Before being allowed to race again, CROISSANT will have to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test. On jumping, NAMJONG HERO was bumped by GLORY YEARS which shifted out. Shortly after this, SUPER FIGHTER and NAMJONG HERO were checked when crowded for room between GLORY YEARS and EUPHORIC KID (B Prebble) which shifted in. B Prebble was told whilst the Stewards accepted there was contribution from GLORY YEARS in this incident, he nonetheless should make a greater effort to protect his fellow riders. Also on jumping, PEACH BLOSSOM was bumped by CROISSANT which shifted in. GREAT FORTUNE was slow to begin. Making the turn near the 1000 Metres, SUPER FIGHTER was steadied away from the heels of EUPHORIC KID. In the early stages, NAUGHTY BOY raced wide and without cover. Passing the 800 Metres, SUPER FIGHTER, which was proving difficult to settle, got its head up when being steadied away from the heels of EUPHORIC KID. Throughout the race, PEACH BLOSSOM raced wide and without cover. S Dye (SOLDIER ON) said the intention had been to ride the horse in a rearward position from its wide barrier. He said as such he allowed the horse to come back in the early stages in the hope of being able to find a position on the running rail making the first turn. He said he shifted to a position behind GREAT FORTUNE, however, it soon became apparent to him that horse would not carry him forward into the race. He said whilst SOLDIER ON was relaxed, he then passing the 900 Metres shifted to the outside of GREAT FORTUNE and commenced to improve his position. He said at the 600 Metres he improved to be racing behind DR POSSI and the manner in which SOLDIER ON was travelling led him to believe it would close the race off strongly. He said however when under pressure in the Straight SOLDIER ON kept on only one paced. S Dye was told to ensure that he did not set his mounts too big a task in running. When questioned regarding his riding of DR POSSI, W M Lai said he had been instructed from an awkward draw to get a position as close to the rail as possible and obtain cover. He said after beginning well he allowed DR POSSI to shift in behind runners and was able to obtain a position on the rail behind NAMJONG HERO. He said DR POSSI travelled well throughout the race and at the entrance to the Straight he commenced to ride his mount out vigorously hands and heels in order to improve his position. He said he was reluctant to use the whip on DR POSSI in the early stages of the Straight as he had PEACH BLOSSOM racing to his immediate outside and the eventual winner EUPHORIC KID in advance and he was attempting to secure an uninterrupted run in the Straight. He added near the 150 Metres he was able to obtain a run between EUPHORIC KID and CROISSANT and DR POSSI finished the race off strongly. W M Lai was advised at all times he must ride his mounts in such a manner as to leave no room for query. NAMJONG HERO was sent for an official veterinary inspection. After the race, NAMJONG HERO was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said the horse had bled from both nostrils. DANEMAN HILL, EUPHORIC KID and SUPER FIGHTER were sent for sampling.
