Racing Incident Report
COUNTRY BOY was withdrawn on 16.9.05 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (right fore tendon injury). Before being allowed to race again, COUNTRY BOY will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. On leaving the Parade Ring, G Mossé, the rider of GOLD FIELD, expressed concerns over the action of the horse. Prior to proceeding to the Start, GOLD FIELD was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon. The horse was trotted up and he said in his opinion there were no abnormalities at that time. GOLD FIELD then proceeded to the Start where G Mossé again expressed further concerns regarding the action of the horse. The horse was then examined by the Veterinary Surgeon at the Start. GOLD FIELD was again trotted up and the Veterinary Surgeon said in his opinion the horse was suitable to race. G Mossé then expressed to the Starter that he did not wish to ride GOLD FIELD in the race because of his concerns over the horse's action. In these circumstances, the Stewards ordered GOLD FIELD to be withdrawn. After the race, GOLD FIELD was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said there were no significant findings. Mr S Woods, trainer of GOLD FIELD, was advised before being permitted to race again, GOLD FIELD will be required to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. MILITARY OPTION began awkwardly, got its head up and bumped the outside gate of its stall. In the early stages, ROYAL FALCON (M Rodd) hung in and near the 1600 Metres shifted in when not properly clear of THOUSAND WINS, causing that horse to be checked. DOUBLE PLEASURE and CYPRESS HILL, which were following THOUSAND WINS, were steadied in consequence. M Rodd was severely reprimanded and told whilst the Stewards accepted he had his mount's head turned outwards, in similar circumstances he would be expected to make a greater effort than he did on this occasion to protect his fellow riders. Prior to straightening, THOUSAND WINS was held up and awkwardly placed when endeavouring to improve between ROYAL FALCON and DOUBLE PLEASURE. In the early part of the Straight, KIDDY SING had difficulty obtaining clear running. After the 400 Metres, THOUSAND WINS was steadied when disappointed for running between DOUBLE PLEASURE and ROYAL FALCON. Over the final 200 Metres, SUNNY RIVIERA hung in. In the Straight, DOUBLE PLEASURE hung in and proved difficult to ride and after the 200 Metres shifted ground, causing crowding to ROYAL FALCON which was steadied when giving ground. C Munce (SUNNY RIVIERA), winner of the race, was told that his riding over the concluding stages was of concern to the Stewards and he must at all times ensure he rides his mounts out fully over the concluding stages in similar circumstances. TRAVIANO was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of TRAVIANO after the race did not show any significant findings. DOUBLE PLEASURE, SUNNY RIVIERA and SPRINTER were sent for sampling. After the race, it was reported ROYAL FALCON had lost its left hind plate. Also after the race, it was reported DOUBLE PLEASURE had sustained abrasions to the left hind heel and the right rib.
Additional Veterinary Reports (released on 20 September 2005)
GOLD FIELD, which was withdrawn at the Start by order of the Stewards as its rider was concerned over the horse's action, was examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer. He said at that time there were no significant findings. GOLD FIELD was again examined by the Head of Veterinary Regulation & International Liaison at the stables of Trainer S Woods last Sunday. He said at this time he noted the horse to be slightly lame in the right front leg. As previously advised, GOLD FIELD will have to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination before racing again.
