Racing Incident Report

After being boxed, SPINNING CITY became fractious and momentarily had its right hind leg caught on the partition. SPINNING CITY was removed from its stall and examined by the Veterinary Surgeon who said in his opinion it was suitable to race. GLOBAL FORTUNE was slow to begin, then got its head up and lost further ground. SILVERBIRD, which had drawn towards the outside, was slow to begin and then was shifted across behind runners. Near the 1200 Metres, SPINNING CITY and WIN FOR ALL were crowded for room inside ONE MORE ROUND which got its head on the side and shifted in away from NOBLE MAN when barely clear. After this, ONE MORE ROUND was shifted out. At the 1000 Metres, FLYING KENNY was crowded for room inside WIN FOR ALL which got its head on the side and hung in when racing tight inside ONE MORE ROUND which itself was hanging in. When WIN FOR ALL was shifted out to relieve the pressure it was applying to FLYING KENNY, inconvenience was caused to THOUSAND WINS and CHINSOLA which were following. Making the turn at the 800 Metres, FLYING KENNY was checked when crowded for room inside WIN FOR ALL which shifted ground while continuing to hang in. GLOBAL FORTUNE made the turn at the 800 Metres awkwardly. After the 600 Metres, ONE MORE ROUND was shifted towards the outside of GREEN WARRIOR. Near the 350 Metres, LUCKY CORDELIA was steadied when disappointed for running between FLYING KENNY and FAST TRACK which at this time shifted to the inside of the heels of GREEN WARRIOR. For the major part of the race, LOTZATOW raced wide and without cover. When questioned regarding the improved performance of NOBLE MAN, Mr T K Ng, the trainer of the horse, said the horse was having its 4th run for his stable today after being transferred following a serious leg injury. He said he was very satisfied with the horse's first performance with his stable, however, its two subsequent performances had been somewhat disappointing despite him having increased the work given to the horse. He said when entries closed for today's race NOBLE MAN was initially drawn on the reserve list and only gained a start at declaration time. He said as NOBLE MAN had been on the reserve list he had eased off the horse in track work. He said he believed NOBLE MAN might have benefited from this. He added from a wide gate today it was intended to ride NOBLE MAN with cover in a forward position, however, after beginning well and being able to cross the field comfortably, the horse was able to lead unchallenged. He did point out today's track appeared to suit runners in forward positions on the fence. The explanation submitted by Mr Ng was accepted. When questioned regarding his riding in the Home Straight, Apprentice C K Tong (GLOBAL FORTUNE) said he had been instructed by Mr K W Lui, the trainer of the horse, if possible to make his run in the Home Straight outside horses from well back in the field. He said on straightening he was following ONE MORE ROUND and having in mind his instructions he continued following that horse and then shifted towards the outside of it to follow THOUSAND WINS, however, that horse did not improve its position and as a consequence he was held up for clear running. Apprentice Tong was told his riding particularly approaching and passing the 200 Metres was of concern and he should in the opinion of the Stewards have endeavoured to take a run which was available to him on the inside of ONE MORE ROUND. He was also told he should always avail himself of such opportunities at vital stages of the race. D Whyte (THOUSAND WINS) was unable to offer any explanation for the poor performance of the horse. He said he had to make some use of THOUSAND WINS in the early stages to obtain a position in midfield close to the rail. He said near the 600 Metres he shifted to the outside of FAST TRACK to start improving his position, however, shortly afterwards THOUSAND WINS was under pressure and did not respond to his riding. S Dye (WIN AGAIN) said he rode the horse in a rearward position as instructed. He said approaching the turn at the 800 Metres WIN AGAIN commenced to hang out and was racing ungenerously. He said after the 600 Metres he pulled the whip on WIN AGAIN in an endeavour to have the horse improve its position, however, WIN AGAIN did not respond. He said after straightening WIN AGAIN became unbalanced in its action and as the horse was already well beaten he did not ride it out as he normally would. THOUSAND WINS was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. WIN AGAIN and ONE MORE ROUND were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of THOUSAND WINS and WIN AGAIN after the race did not show any significant findings. After returning to the stable, it was reported ONE MORE ROUND had blood present at its left nostril. The horse was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said an endoscopic examination showed the horse's trachea to be clean and therefore the horse was not deemed to have bled. NOBLE MAN and WIN FOR ALL were sent for sampling. After the race, it was reported LOTZATOW had sustained an abrasion to the left hind tendon.
