Racing Incident Report
The bell which signifies the start of the race and is usually sounded automatically when the start is effected failed to activate due to a mechanical problem. This bell was manually activated after the field had travelled a short distance. AGILITY bounded in the air at the start and lost ground. ART TRADER was slow to begin. At the 1200 Metres, PRETTY TRIO, which was proving difficult to settle, got its head up when being steadied away from the heels of LIBERAL'S CHOICE. On straightening until near the 200 Metres, PRETTY TRIO was held up and unable to improve when racing behind LIBERAL'S CHOICE and inside RIVER ESPERANTO. When being shifted towards the outside of LIBERAL'S CHOICE to obtain clear running, PRETTY TRIO bumped RIVER ESPERANTO which was giving ground. Near the 50 Metres, PRETTY TRIO shifted to the outside of AGILITY which was drifting in. After the 400 Metres, RIVER ESPERANTO was bumped and crowded for room inside DYNAMIC FUN (C Brown) which shifted in before being straightened. C Brown was told in similar circumstances he should stop riding and straighten his mount sooner than he did on this occasion. Over the concluding stages, LUCKY GOOD DAY hung in. When questioned, C Brown (DYNAMIC FUN) said his intention after beginning well was to shift across and race about a half length behind LIBERAL'S CHOICE, the leader and on its outside. He said in the early stages he gradually worked his way across towards LIBERAL'S CHOICE, however, after the 1600 Metres DYNAMIC FUN got its head on the side and commenced to hang out as it had done in the past. He said near the 1300 Metres he managed to bring DYNAMIC FUN across to race outside LIBERAL'S CHOICE, however, near the 1100 Metres DYNAMIC FUN commenced to hang more severely and shifted out. This allowed RIVER ESPERANTO to improve its position on the inside and consequently prevented DYNAMIC FUN from being able to shift back across to race outside LIBERAL'S CHOICE. He said after this DYNAMIC FUN continued to travel three wide and raced ungenerously. The explanation submitted by C Brown was accepted. ART TRADER was sent for an official veterinary inspection. After the race, ART TRADER was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed a significant amount of mucopus in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, ART TRADER will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. RIVER ESPERANTO, AGILITY and PRETTY TRIO were sent for sampling.
Additional Veterinary Reports (released on 20 June 2005)
ART TRADER, which performed poorly, was examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer. He said at that time an endoscopic examination showed a significant amount of mucopus in the horse's trachea. ART TRADER was again examined by the Head of Veterinary Regulation & International Liaison at the stables of Trainer J Moore yesterday. He said at this time he noted the horse to be lame in the left hind leg. As previously advised, ART TRADER will be subjected to an official veterinary examination before being allowed to race again.
