Racing Incident Report
When entering the track from the Parade Ring, BIG WINNER dislodged its rider, Apprentice K H Chan, and SIR HUMOR dislodged its rider, E Saint-Martin. Neither rider lost control of their horses and they suffered harmless falls. AMERICAN VICTORY, which was standing badly, began awkwardly and lost ground. GLOBE RIVER began awkwardly, bumped the outside of its stall, then shifted out and made contact with ZEONIC FRONTIER. PIONERO began awkwardly. Shortly after the start, SPARKLE was bumped by JUSTINIAN which shifted in. Near the 1300 Metres, PIONERO was bumped by GLOBE RIVER which shifted in. At the 700 Metres, GLOBE RIVER and AMERICAN VICTORY bumped. Near the 300 Metres, HAWKIE STAR when being shifted to the outside of SMART CHAMPION, became unbalanced and blundered. In the Straight, AMERICAN VICTORY hung out. Because of this, B Prebble, its ride, changed the whip into his left hand at the 200 Metres. When questioned regarding his riding near the 600 Metres, Apprentice C K Tong (MY EGO) said his mount had been racing wide and without cover and at this time commenced to give ground and when doing so drifted in close to the heels of JUSTINIAN which was racing forward of him on his inside. He said at the same time he heard calling from riders behind him and he became concerned his mount might be causing interference. He said he was unaware which runners were racing to his inside and behind. He said because of the manner in which MY EGO was travelling and because it was close to the heels of JUSTINIAN while being unbalanced he shifted his left arm away from the horse's neck and turned its head outwards to ensure he was clear of the heels of JUSTINIAN. He said as a result of this MY EGO shifted some two to three horses wider while continuing to give ground and as a consequence PIONERO and GLOBE RIVER improved to his inside. Apprentice C K Tong was told his riding at this stage of the race had come under notice and was of concern to the Stewards. He was advised he should ride all mounts out at all times in a competitive manner and in slightly different circumstances he could find himself in breach of a serious Rule. PIONERO, MASTER SPIRIT and AMERICAN VICTORY were sent for sampling.
Additional Veterinary Reports (released on 23 May 2005)
ZEONIC FRONTIER was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon at the stables of Trainer P F Yiu this morning. He said at this time he noted the horse to be lame in the left front leg. Before being permitted to race again, ZEONIC FRONTIER will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
