Racing Incident Report

MYTHIC STEED began awkwardly, causing its rider, Apprentice P H Lo, to become unbalanced. As a consequence, MYTHIC STEED shifted in abruptly and bumped SPEED OF LIGHT. SOARING ANGEL began awkwardly and was slow into stride, then after being ridden along in the early stages proved difficult to settle and near the 1600 Metres was steadied away from the heels of TRIUMPH. Near the 1600 Metres, HAPPY HEROES, which was proving difficult to settle, was steadied away from the heels of VICTORY TURBO. For some distance after the 1600 Metres, when racing without cover, FRIENDSHIP proved difficult to settle. Near the 1500 Metres, SPEED OF LIGHT was steadied when crowded for room inside SNIPER which itself was carried in slightly by VICTORY TURBO (G Mossé). G Mossé was advised to exercise more care. After the 500 Metres, KNIGHT TEMPLAR was steadied away from the heels of VICTORY TURBO. At the 250 Metres, MYTHIC STEED was steadied and shifted to the outside of BALL OF FIRE into clear running. F Coetzee (TATTLETALE) said the horse was standing well in the gates, however, when the start was effected it got its head up and lost ground. He said after this TATTLETALE was reluctant to stretch out and became detached from the main body of the field. He said at no stage of today's race did TATTLETALE race as he thought it should. TATTLETALE was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of TATTLETALE after the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of TATTLETALE was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, TATTLETALE will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. S Dye (SNIPER) said he felt as though the horse had been galloped on near the 1500 Metres and after this did not travel well. He did add following this incident he was obliged to race three wide and without cover, however, in his opinion the horse's injury was the main reason for its poor performance. SNIPER was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. After the race, SNIPER was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said the horse had sustained a cut over the right hind tendon area. Before being allowed to race again, SNIPER will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. KNIGHT TEMPLAR and VICTORY TURBO were sent for sampling. After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that VICTORY TURBO had lost its right hind plate.
