Racing Incident Report
SALUZI was withdrawn on 19.4.05 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (right fore suspensory ligament injury) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter OH GREAT (F Coetzee). Before being allowed to race again, SALUZI will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. FORTUNE LAD and WINNING WAYS were slow to begin. When the gates opened, PLEASANT JOURNEY bounded in the air, began awkwardly and lost ground. From the outside gate, JUBILOSO was immediately taken across behind runners. Passing the winning post on the first occasion, RENA'S WUNDERBAR became unbalanced. Near the 1300 Metres, FUN CRUISER was brushed by FORTUNE LAD. Making the turn after the 1200 Metres until after entering the Back Straight, ASIA STAR hung out, near the 900 Metres shifted out and bumped MAESTRO. Near the 1000 Metres, RENA'S WUNDERBAR got its head on the side and hung in. Making the turn at the 600 Metres, GIDDY KIPPER was momentarily steadied when tight inside RENA'S WUNDERBAR which got its head on the side and hung in. At the same time, PLEASANT JOURNEY became unbalanced and lost ground. JUBILOSO, which was following PLEASANT JOURNEY, was steadied. For some distance approaching and passing the 200 Metres, PLEASANT JOURNEY had difficulty obtaining clear running inside JUBILOSO and outside FORTUNE LAD. To obtain clear running, PLEASANT JOURNEY shifted out and bumped JUBILOSO. After the 200 Metres, MAESTRO and ETERNAL FUN were crowded for room between RENA'S WUNDERBAR and CAPABEL (Apprentice C K Tong) which drifted out whilst being ridden along. Near the 150 Metres, ETERNAL FUN was steadied and shifted to the inside of CAPABEL. Apprentice Tong was severely reprimanded and told in similar circumstances he would be expected to stop riding and straighten his mount sooner than he did on this occasion. In the Straight, JUBILOSO hung in and proved difficult to ride. GIDDY KIPPER and RENA'S WUNDERBAR were sent for sampling. After the race, it was noted JUBILOSO had sustained a laceration to the left hind pastern.
