Racing Incident Report
PIONERO was withdrawn on 25.3.05 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame left fore) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter SPEEDY EXPRESS (Apprentice P H Lo). Before being allowed to race again, PIONERO will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. After arriving at the Start, E Saint-Martin (GOLD SANDFIELD) expressed concern over the action of the horse in the preliminary. The horse was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon who said in his opinion it was suitable to race. LUCKY MONEY began awkwardly. Making the turn at the 800 Metres, ALL FIT was awkwardly placed close to the heels of LASER GLORY. Near the 600 Metres, WISDOM EXPRESS became unbalanced after being bumped by ALL FIT. Prior to straightening, ACCLAMATION was steadied and shifted to the inside of SPEEDY EXPRESS. G Schofield (PLENTY OF HEART) was unable to offer any explanation for the poor performance of the horse. He said PLENTY OF HEART raced behind midfield as anticipated and on a number of occasions in the run felt somewhat unbalanced in the ground. He said in the Straight PLENTY OF HEART failed to respond to his riding and did not close the race off as he had hoped. E Saint-Martin (GOLD SANDFIELD) said from barrier 4 the intention had been to go back to the rear in an endeavour to make his run on the outside as in the past this horse had shown itself to not appreciate racing inside other runners. He said near the 1000 Metres he was carried to the fence when LUCKY MONEY shifted in on his outside, he therefore went forward of that horse and again shifted away from the rail after the 800 Metres. He said he was aware there was room for him to improve on the inside of PLENTY OF HEART and ALL FIT, however, having in mind his instructions and from previous experience riding this horse he felt it was a preferred option to remain racing away from the rail. He said shortly after straightening he shifted his mount to the outside of PLENTY OF HEART, commenced to ride along hands and heels and the horse initially responded only fairly. He said after the 300 Metres he commenced using the whip on GOLD SANDFIELD which then closed the race off fairly. He did say in his opinion GOLD SANDFIELD at this stage races like a horse which lacks maturity. ALL FIT, GOLD SANDFIELD and PLENTY OF HEART were sent for an official veterinary inspection. After the race, PLENTY OF HEART was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed a significant amount of blood and mucopus in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, PLENTY OF HEART will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. A veterinary inspection of ALL FIT and GOLD SANDFIELD after the race did not show any significant findings. CARRY THE MAGIC, GLOBAL FORTUNE and TELECOM SUPERBOSS were sent for sampling.
