Racing Incident Report

After passing the winning post on the first occasion, DR WELL, which was racing tight inside LIBERAL'S CHOICE, shifted in away from that horse, bumped the running rail and became unbalanced. Near the 1300 Metres, DR WELL was again crowded for room inside LIBERAL'S CHOICE. From shortly after the start until near the 1000 Metres, LUCKSWELL raced three wide and without cover. At the 500 Metres, MINE HOST was steadied and shifted in to avoid the heels of LUCKY GOOD DAY which was giving ground. Also at the 500 Metres, LUCKSWELL was carried wider by BEST GIFT which shifted out. Approaching and making the Home Turn, DR WELL was held up and unable to improve when racing behind KING OF FISH and LIBERAL'S CHOICE, both of which commenced to give ground. When questioned regarding the performance of LIBERAL'S CHOICE, D Whyte, the horse's rider, said in the early stages he was caught wide and was then carried wider rounding the Home Turn on the first occasion. He said after this near the winning post on the first occasion he attempted to come back and follow LUCKY GOOD DAY, however, when he did this LIBERAL'S CHOICE was inclined to lay in and would not relax for him. He said it was not until near the 1000 Metres that LIBERAL'S CHOICE relaxed properly. He said after the 700 Metres the leaders commenced to give ground in front of him, so he again shifted three wide so as not to get caught behind those runners. He said LIBERAL'S CHOICE's poor performance in his opinion was explained by the amount of work it was required to do during the run. LIBERAL'S CHOICE, LUCKY GOOD DAY and KING OF FISH were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of LIBERAL'S CHOICE, LUCKY GOOD DAY and KING OF FISH after the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of LUCKY GOOD DAY, which tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being permitted to race again, LUCKY GOOD DAY will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. SUPER COMBED and BEST GIFT were sent for sampling.
