Racing Incident Report
When the gates opened, SMART CHIEF bounded in the air, bumped the outside gate of its stall and lost ground. On jumping, NOBLE WIND shifted in and bumped MODERN PROSPECT. SWEETIE and CUPID were slow to begin. With the intention of being ridden back in the field from the outside barrier, FLORAL DANCER on jumping was shifted across behind runners. Approaching the first turn, TURBOJET (Apprentice C K Tong) shifted towards the rail abruptly, then became unbalanced when being straightened. Apprentice Tong was advised against the practice of shifting ground too abruptly. Making the first turn, SWEETIE was steadied when crowded for room inside FORTUNE LAD which got its head on the side and hung in away from SHINING GEM. After the 1400 Metres, MILLION SUCCESS, which was racing tight inside CUPID, got its head up, shifted out and was checked to avoid the heels of that horse. No action was taken. Near the 1200 Metres, SWEETIE was steadied when crowded for room between MILLION SUCCESS which shifted out slightly and SMART CHIEF which shifted in slightly when racing tight inside RED FIREBALL. Making the turn at the 700 Metres, TURBOJET became unbalanced and bumped the running rail. Prior to straightening, PORT OF HOPE was steadied when disappointed for running between SHINING GEM and NOBLE WIND which at this time shifted to the outside of MR GENKI. Apprentice M W Leung (FORTUNE LAD) explained making the turn after the 700 Metres his mount hung out badly, because of this he was unable to take a run which was available to him inside CUPID. He said making the Home Turn and in the early part of the Straight FORTUNE LAD continued to hang out, he therefore ensured the horse was properly balanced before riding it out. The explanation submitted by Apprentice Leung was accepted. MR GENKI was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of MR GENKI after the race did not show any significant findings. NOBLE WIND and SHINING GEM were sent for sampling.
