Racing Incident Report

ZABEBE, SUCCESSOR and HELENE ELEGANCE were a little slow to begin. At the 800 Metres, GALLANT KNIGHT was checked severely when crowded for room between FIRM OFFER and SUCCESSOR which shifted in away from SALUT BEAUTE (Apprentice P H Lo) after for some distance leading up to this incident racing tight inside that horse. ZABEBE, which was following, was shifted out to avoid GALLANT KNIGHT. Whilst the Stewards accepted SUCCESSOR had contributed to this incident, they nonetheless reprimanded Apprentice Lo for initially having that runner too tight on his inside. Also at the 800 Metres, FIRM OFFER got its head up when being steadied away from the heels of FLYING SPRINTER. Making the turn at the 600 Metres, FIRM OFFER hung out. Making the turn after the 600 Metres, FLYING SPRINTER got its head on the side and hung out. This resulted in SUCCESSOR which was racing ungenerously being carried wider. After the 600 Metres, ROYAL DECREE got its head up when awkwardly placed inside the heels of SALUT BEAUTE. After the 200 Metres, ZABEBE was steadied and shifted out when disappointed for running between HELENE ELEGANCE and FLYING SPRINTER which at this time got its head on the side and shifted ground while hanging in. M Rodd (EVER MORE) reported his mount got its head up and was reluctant to stride out, then near the 700 Metres was steadied away from the heels of GALLANT KNIGHT. EVER MORE was sent for an official veterinary inspection. Following the race, EVER MORE was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed the horse to have an epiglottic entrapment (breathing obstruction). Before being allowed to race again, EVER MORE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. CAPTAIN HAPPY, FIRM OFFER and FLYING SPRINTER were sent for sampling. After the race, it was reported CAPTAIN HAPPY had lost its left hind plate.
