Racing Incident Report
Mr Y O Wong, trainer of TELECOM CAESAR, was fined $2,000 for negligently failing to declare at time of declarations that K S Yu, the rider of the horse, would be 2 lbs overweight. LAZY BUDDIES was slow to begin. FORTUNE ALL TIMES began awkwardly and lost ground. Near the 1300 Metres, TURBOJET was bumped by JADE RUYI which became unbalanced and shifted out. For the major part of the race, LOK WAH TREASURE travelled ungenerously, proved difficult to settle, near the 1600 Metres shifted out and bumped NEW CENTURY, then near the 800 Metres on a number of occasions got its head up when being checked away from the heels of TURBOJET. Shortly after straightening, NEW CENTURY, which was giving ground, was steadied away from the heels of TURBOJET. F Coetzee (LA MERVEILLE) said he had been instructed to ride the horse around midfield. He said LA MERVEILLE began fairly, did not muster pace as he anticipated, however, he was not concerned as he believed he would obtain a midfield position. He said after the 1600 Metres LA MERVEILLE became unbalanced in its action and dipped, he therefore allowed the horse to become re-balanced. He said when he did this, TURBOJET went forward of him and shifted in front of him. He said after this he shifted to a position on the rail behind JADE RUYI, however, when that horse did not commence to improve passing the 800 Metres and other runners improved around his outside, he shifted away from the rail, near the 600 Metres endeavoured to follow LAZY BUDDIES forward, however, LA MERVEILLE did not quicken as he would have anticipated. He said near the 250 Metres he was bumped by NEW CENTURY which shifted in when giving ground, however, after this LA MERVEILLE closed the race off strongly. LOK WAH TREASURE was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of LOK WAH TREASURE after the race did not show any significant findings. CAPABEL, SOARING ANGEL and OPTIC CHIEF were sent for sampling.
