Racing Incident Report
SMILEY WIN was withdrawn on 1.3.05 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame right fore) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter WISDOM EXPRESS (C Williams). Before being allowed to race again, SMILEY WIN will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. FUN CRUISER began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped AFFIRMATIVE ACTION. ARIGATO began awkwardly. Near the 800 Metres, AFFIRMATIVE ACTION was steadied away from the heels of ARIGATO which itself was proving difficult to settle and was steadied when awkwardly placed close to the heels of FLASH MAC. Making the turn at the 600 Metres, FLASH MAC was tightened for room inside WELL EXPRESS. After the 600 Metres, WONDERFUL BOY was steadied when awkwardly placed between FAIRWAY FINDER and WISDOM EXPRESS which at this time got its head up and shifted out slightly. Near the 400 Metres, FUN CRUISER became unbalanced when awkwardly placed inside the heels of AFFIRMATIVE ACTION which at this time got its head on the side and hung in. Making the Home Turn and in the early part of the Straight, ARIGATO was held up when awkwardly placed close to the heels of FLASH MAC. Approaching the 200 Metres, AFFIRMATIVE ACTION endeavoured to improve into a narrow run between FORTUNE MAPLE and WELL EXPRESS which was giving ground. After the 200 Metres, AFFIRMATIVE ACTION clipped the heels of FORTUNE MAPLE and fell, causing S Sanders, its rider, to be dislodged. When AFFIRMATIVE ACTION fell, it fell sideways under the hind legs of WELL EXPRESS, causing that horse to become badly unbalanced and dislodge D Whyte, its rider. In the opinion of the Stewards, the fall occurred as a result of a combination of factors including a slight shift in from FORTUNE MAPLE at the same time as there was a slight shift out from FLASH MAC, causing WELL EXPRESS to be carried out, together with the fact that AFFIRMATIVE ACTION was endeavouring to improve into a tight run. The Stewards believed the incident was accidental and no action was taken. After the race, both S Sanders and D Whyte were examined by the Club's doctor who said they were fit to fulfil their remaining riding engagements. Also after the 200 Metres, FUN CRUISER was momentarily steadied and shifted to the outside of PEPPERONI to continue going forward. Near the 150 Metres, WONDERFUL BOY was steadied away from the heels of FAIRWAY FINDER (O Doleuze) which when giving ground shifted out abruptly. O Doleuze was advised to exercise more care. Throughout the race, FAIRWAY FINDER raced wide and without cover. ARIGATO, WISDOM EXPRESS and SPOKESMAN were sent for sampling.
