Racing Incident Report
RAIDER was slow to begin. On jumping, FIGURES knuckled. For some distance after the 900 Metres, FIGURES and FOKINE raced tight due mainly to FIGURES continuing to race away from the rail. Making the Home Turn, GREAT DELIGHT was carried wider by CLASSIC MASTER. At the 200 Metres, KEY TO SUCCESS was checked when unable to obtain clear running between GREAT DELIGHT and FOKINE, both of which were giving ground. In this incident, FOKINE was bumped on the hindquarters by KEY TO SUCCESS and became unbalanced. C Soumillon (STAY YOUNG) explained he had been instructed to ride the horse in 5th or 6th position if possible. He said when the gates opened STAY YOUNG began only fairly, horses around him quickly mustered speed which he was unable to do, he therefore from a wide barrier elected to allow STAY YOUNG to drift back and travel comfortably with cover in the hope it would close the race off. He said on straightening he shifted STAY YOUNG to the outside, the horse closed the race off strongly and in his opinion ran better than it had at its recent starts. M Rodd (CLASSIC MASTER) explained he had been instructed to shift some 8 to 10 horses away from the fence on straightening and to maintain a line away from the rail in the Home Straight. He said because of this after passing the 600 Metres he commenced to shift away from the rail and prior to straightening looked to his outside to ensure he was able to continue drifting out without causing interference. Mr J Moore, the trainer of CLASSIC MASTER, confirmed the riding instructions issued to M Rodd and said in his opinion the inside section of the track was beginning to cut up as a result of earlier races. Mr Moore acknowledged GEM OF INDIA maintained a line close to the rail and figured prominently in the finish, however, he remained of the opinion that the going close to the rail was now inferior to wider on the track. The declaration of weighed-in was deferred as the Stewards were of the view an incident had occurred over the concluding stages which cast doubt on whether MY CHOICE should be declared the winner of the race. After viewing all the available videos and all members of the Panel had expressed their opinions, the Stewards did not believe it was appropriate to proceed with a formal hearing and accordingly weighed-in was semaphored, confirming the Judge's placings. It was established over the concluding stages MY CHOICE shifted out, causing LUCKY PARADISE to be carried wider. FOKINE was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. A veterinary inspection of FOKINE after the race did not show any significant findings. MY CHOICE and GEM OF INDIA were sent for sampling.
