Racing Incident Report

The Veterinary Officer reported after arriving at the saddling stalls that HARVEY MUDD was lame in the right hind leg and as such was not suitable to race. Acting on this advice, the Stewards ordered the withdrawal of HARVEY MUDD. Before being allowed to race again, HARVEY MUDD will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. The Stewards will seek an explanation from Mr C S Shum, trainer of HARVEY MUDD, as to the reasons for the horse being presented to race when lame at a date to be fixed. The Stewards directed HARVEY MUDD be sent for sampling. O Doleuze (LUCKY GALLOPER) was fined $5,000 for changing his body protector after weighing out. AMBITIOUS LEADER began awkwardly, bumped the outside gate of its stall, became unbalanced and lost ground. GOLD STRIKER was slow to begin. When the gates opened, ABLE EAGLE put its head down, began awkwardly, shifted in and caused crowding on its inside to LUCKY LAD which became unbalanced and ALL FIT which was checked. Near the 900 Metres, SAINTLY PARTNERS, which was proving difficult to settle, was steadied away from the heels of FLYING SPRINTER which shifted in when only just clear. After the 900 Metres, GOLD STRIKER was steadied when awkwardly placed close to the heels of CROWNED GEM which shifted in when barely clear. Making the turn at the 800 Metres, GOLD STRIKER was steadied when crowded for room between SAINTLY PARTNERS and ABLE EAGLE (S K Sit) which momentarily shifted in. S K Sit was reprimanded and advised to exercise more care. Making the turn after the 800 Metres, LUCKY WINNER, which was racing wide and without cover, hung out. In the middle stages, ZERO IN was inclined to lay out. On straightening, SAINTLY PARTNERS was crowded for room inside the heels of ABLE EAGLE which was hanging in. In the Straight, GOODWOOD hung out and proved difficult to ride. GOODWOOD was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of GOODWOOD after the race did not show any significant findings. GOLD STRIKER, LUCKY GALLOPER and CROWNED GEM were sent for sampling.
