Racing Incident Report

Apprentice P H Lo (CUPID) was fined $2,000 for initially weighing out without a girth. CUPID was slow to begin. At the 2000 Metres, STEP FORWARD was steadied when awkwardly placed inside the heels of SPECTACULAR HIT. Near the 1300 Metres, SUPER DANA was steadied when crowded for room inside DIVINE FEELING which got its head on the side and shifted in despite the efforts of B Prebble, its rider. Making the turn at the 600 Metres, DIVINE FEELING, which had commenced to improve inside PLEDGE OF HONOR, was steadied when crowded for room inside that horse which was carried in by OUT OF MY WAY (D Holland) which shifted in when not properly clear. D Holland was reprimanded and advised to exercise more care. After this incident, DIVINE FEELING was awkwardly placed close to the heels of PLEDGE OF HONOR which commenced to give ground and near the 500 Metres was checked and shifted out. DIVINE FEELING was then crowded for room between PLEDGE OF HONOR which itself became unbalanced and SPECTACULAR HIT. As a result of this crowding, DIVINE FEELING and PLEDGE OF HONOR were checked near the 400 Metres. No action was taken. Near the 200 Metres, ENAMELLED, which commenced to give ground, was steadied when crowded for room between HAPPY CONTENDER and SPECTACULAR HIT which when improving on the outside of STEP FORWARD was carried out by that horse. No action was taken. After the 100 Metres, MONZA KING shifted in and bumped HAPPY CONTENDER. Also after the 100 Metres, R Fradd (MONZA KING) dropped his whip. Apprentice M W Leung (PLEDGE OF HONOR) said he had been instructed to have the horse begin well and then endeavour to have it relaxed. He said in accordance with those instructions he rode PLEDGE OF HONOR along in the early stages, however, the horse immediately commenced to hang out and then hung out badly throughout the race. He said because of this he had difficulty controlling PLEDGE OF HONOR in the run and as a consequence the horse went harder than he had hoped and in the Straight gave ground. PLEDGE OF HONOR was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of PLEDGE OF HONOR after the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of PLEDGE OF HONOR was considered unacceptable. Before being permitted to race again, PLEDGE OF HONOR will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial around a bend and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. SPECTACULAR HIT, WATCHMAN and MONZA KING were sent for sampling.
