Racing Incident Report

After being boxed, SHINING LIGHT became fractious. SHINING LIGHT was removed from its stall and examined by the Veterinary Surgeon who said after the necessary consultations the horse was suitable to race. When the gates opened, SHINING LIGHT bounded in the air and lost ground. GOLDEN SUPREME and LUCKY SUPERSTAR were slow to begin. Shortly after the start, DESERT STRIKE became unbalanced after being bumped by SHENANEGAN which shifted out after making contact with MOMENTUM. After the 1600 Metres when being steadied to shift in to a position behind SHINING LIGHT, JUBILOSO got its head up. Just prior to making the turn at the 800 Metres, TREASURE FIELD was hampered and carried wider when bumped on a number of occasions by BARRACUDA (W M Lai) which shifted to the outside of the heels of SOCRATES. W M Lai was severely reprimanded and told in slightly different circumstances he could be found to be in breach of a serious rule and he must show more consideration for his fellow riders. For some distance after this, BARRACUDA and TREASURE FIELD raced tight. At the 800 Metres, KINGSTON GLORY was checked to avoid the heels of MOMENTUM which was being steadied away from the heels of KNIGHT TEMPLAR. On straightening, JUBILOSO was steadied and shifted to the outside of LUCKY SUPERSTAR. For the majority of the Home Straight, MOMENTUM was held up and unable to improve behind BARRACUDA. After the 200 Metres, KNIGHT TEMPLAR, which was closing the race off, was steadied and shifted to the outside of SOCRATES to continue going forward. Over about the final 100 Metres, KINGSTON GLORY was steadied and not ridden out when awkwardly placed inside the heels of MASTER MARAUDER which was giving ground. After the 100 Metres, MOMENTUM was shifted to the inside of BARRACUDA into clear running. Throughout the race, SHINING LIGHT raced wide and without cover and in the Straight gave ground. After the race, A Delpech, the rider of SHINING LIGHT, reported the horse did not feel right in its action in the Home Straight. SHINING LIGHT was sent for an official veterinary inspection. SHINING LIGHT was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said there were no significant findings. The performance of SHINING LIGHT, which tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, SHINING LIGHT will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. MASTER MARAUDER was sent for an official veterinary inspection. After the race, MASTER MARAUDER was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said the horse had sustained a cut to the left hind fetlock. HONEY MONEY and SOCRATES were sent for sampling.
