Racing Incident Report
Prior to the gates opening, THE ONLY ONE lunged forward and hit the front gate of its stall, then began very awkwardly, shifted out, bumped the hindquarters of SAINTLY PARTNERS and lost ground. FORTUNE PRINCESS was slow to begin. GRASS HOPPER was slow to begin, then near the 800 Metres was steadied when crowded for room inside TRUST ME which got its head on the side and shifted in. FORTUNE PRINCESS made the turn at the 700 Metres awkwardly. In the middle stages, FOURSQUARE and GREAT ACHIEVEMENT hung out. FORTUNE PRINCESS was not ridden out over the concluding stages when improving close to the heels of SUPREMACY which was giving ground. When questioned regarding the improved performance of GREAT ACHIEVEMENT, Mr K L Man, trainer of the horse, which was having its first start on the All Weather surface, said the horse had previously worked and trialed well on this surface. He said he had been disappointed with the form of GREAT ACHIEVEMENT in recent starts when racing on the turf as the horse had pleased him in its morning work. He did say after its most recent start on 21 November 2004 it had been established GREAT ACHIEVEMENT had stomach ulcers for which it had been subsequently treated. C Soumillon (GOOD TRIO) said he had been asked to ride the horse in about 4th or 5th position. He said after being boxed GOOD TRIO was throwing its head about and when the gates opened did not begin that well He said he therefore allowed runners on his inside to go forward of him to allow him the opportunity to shift in. He said shortly after the start he had SAINTLY PARTNERS to his inside and that horse was being ridden despite being in a rearward position, he therefore elected to allow GOOD TRIO to improve on its outside, thinking that SAINTLY PARTNERS which was racing wide on the track would shift across to a position closer to the rail making the turn at the 700 Metres. He said when he got outside SAINTLY PARTNERS, that horse which commenced to hang out continued to race wide on the track and after the 800 Metres he shifted across to try and carry SAINTLY PARTNERS close to the rail, however, he was unable to do so and as a consequence remained racing wide and without cover. He said after the 600 Metres he allowed SAINTLY PARTNERS to go forward of him as that horse was being hard ridden and he then followed it into the Home Straight. He said after straightening he rode GOOD TRIO along, however, the horse was inclined to lay in and after the 200 Metres was checked away from the heels of SIR OCTAVIUS which shifted out. He said after this GOOD TRIO did not finish its race off. GOOD TRIO was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. A veterinary inspection of GOOD TRIO after the race did not show any significant findings. GREAT ACHIEVEMENT and SAINTLY PARTNERS were sent for sampling.
