Racing Incident Report
After being boxed, GOLDEN FARM became fractious and endeavoured to break out underneath the front gates of its stall. The horse was removed from the barriers and examined by the Veterinary Surgeon who said in his opinion the horse was not suitable to race. Acting on this advice, the Stewards ordered the withdrawal of GOLDEN FARM. Before being allowed to race again, GOLDEN FARM will have to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. CENDAMY and WISHMASTER were slow to begin. EVER MORE began awkwardly. Near the 800 Metres, BULB KING was awkwardly placed close to the heels of KEEN FLYER. At the 700 Metres, WISHMASTER was shifted to the inside of EVER MORE. After the 400 Metres, CENDAMY was steadied and shifted to the outside of ARROGANCE. For the major part of the race, FIRM OFFER and FAIR WIN hung in and proved difficult to ride. When questioned, C Williams (CHAMPION WINNER) said he had been instructed to allow the horse which was today racing for the first time in 10 months to travel comfortably, give it a chance and if possible win the race. These instructions were confirmed by Mr P O'Sullivan, trainer of the horse. C Williams said after beginning well CHAMPION WINNER when racing between SUPREMACY and FAIR WIN travelled freely in the early stages. He said he allowed the horse to travel into the bridle, but did not urge it along as he was of the opinion that he would be able to obtain a position with cover behind FAIR WIN which he considered to be a strong chance in the race. He said after the 600 Metres he was crowded for room between SUPREMACY which shifted out slightly and FAIR WIN which got its head on the side when hanging and shifted in. He said because of this he was unable to maintain his forward position between those horses and instead was forced to race behind SUPREMACY. He said after the 400 Metres he shifted back to a position behind FAIR WIN in anticipation of that horse carrying him forward into the race, however, FAIR WIN did not quicken. He said at the same time SUPREMACY started to give ground, therefore he was unable to obtain clear running for a considerable distance. He said after the 150 Metres he shifted to the inside of FAIR WIN when he was able to obtain running, however, shortly afterwards FAIR WIN again shifted in, carried him towards the heels of WISHMASTER and as a consequence he was not able to ride his mount out, resulting in it not being tested. Having viewed the videos of the race, Mr O'Sullivan said in the circumstances he was satisfied with C Williams' riding. He said had C Williams ridden along in the early stages to maintain a more forward position, he was of the opinion CHAMPION WINNER would not have found the line and its condition would have given out near the 200 Metres. He did say he had given CHAMPION WINNER a significant number of barrier trials in preparation for today's race, however, because the horse was racing first up off a long spell, he was unable to have it any fitter than it was for today's race. C Williams was told his riding on CHAMPION WINNER had come under notice and that in the opinion of the Stewards his ride in the middle stages lacked judgement and he should at all times ride his horses in a competitive manner and maintain favourable positions where possible. Mr O'Sullivan was told he should ensure he instructs riders to ride all horses trained by him in a competitive manner. FAIR WIN was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of FAIR WIN after the race did not show any significant findings. FIRM OFFER, BULB KING and KEEN FLYER were sent for sampling.
