Racing Incident Report
After being boxed, BYRON became fractious. The horse was removed from its stall and examined by the Veterinary Surgeon who said after the necessary consultations the horse was suitable to race. On jumping, LUCKY LAD stumbled. When the gates opened, LUCKY HANDS bounded in the air and lost ground. SEASONS KNACK was slow to begin. JUST A MARTIAN began awkwardly, bumped the inside gate of its stall and lost ground. In the early stages, WINNING KEVIN and WEALTHY proved difficult to settle. At the 1100 Metres, WINNING KEVIN was steadied to avoid the heels of LUCKY LAD which shifted in away from CHAMP DRAGON when not quite clear. No action was taken. At the 1000 Metres, LUCKY LAD was momentarily steadied away from the heels of CHAMP DRAGON which shifted in. Shortly after the 400 Metres, WINNING KEVIN was checked when crowded for room between LUCKY LAD which at this time got its head on the side and shifted out and FIRST AMONG EQUALS which shifted in. In the early part of the Straight, JUST A MARTIAN was held up and unable to improve between DILIGENT and LUCKY LAD. Near the 300 Metres, JUST A MARTIAN was checked when disappointed for running between those two horses as a result of DILIGENT shifting out. As the Stewards were satisfied JUST A MARTIAN had not properly established rightful running, no action was taken. For a considerable distance after this incident, JUST A MARTIAN continued to be held up behind LUCKY LAD which was giving ground and near the 200 Metres was shifted to the inside of that horse into clear running. Near the 100 Metres, WEALTHY was checked when crowded for room between FIRST AMONG EQUALS and OSCAR STAR (A Delpech) which shifted ground while hanging out. Whilst the Stewards were satisfied A Delpech had made an endeavour to straighten his mount, he was nonetheless severely reprimanded and told in similar circumstances he should stop riding and straighten his mount sooner than he did on this occasion. WEALTHY, GREEN TREASURE and FIRST AMONG EQUALS were sent for sampling.
