Racing Incident Report
When the gates opened, MR GENKI, which was standing awkwardly, leant against the inside gate of its stall, then bounded in the air and lost a considerable amount of ground. On jumping, CRESCENDO bounded in the air. MIGHTY POWER was a little slow to begin, then shifted out and bumped GOLDEN MILE which in turn caused crowding on its outside to FORTUNE MAPLE which became unbalanced. Near the 900 Metres, MR GENKI got its head up and was steadied away from the heels of WIN FOR ABALONE. Making the turn at the 800 Metres, MIGHTY POWER hung out, causing SPOKESMAN which was racing on its outside to be carried wider. Approaching the 600 Metres, SOUND OF SILENCE was steadied away from the heels of GOLDEN MILE. When SOUND OF SILENCE was close to the heels of GOLDEN MILE, it caused crowding on its inside to WIN FOR ABALONE. At the 600 Metres, MR GENKI got its head up when being steadied away from the heels of SOUND OF SILENCE. Near the 400 Metres, MIGHTY POWER, which was continuing to hang out, became unbalanced, got its head up and was checked away from the heels of CRESCENDO after being bumped by MR GENKI (Y Lerner) which shifted towards the outside of COSMO STAR in an attempt to find clear running. No action was taken, however, Y Lerner was advised to exercise care. Near the 200 Metres, COSMO STAR shifted out and bumped SPOKESMAN. After this, COSMO STAR got its head on the side and was inclined to lay in. Near the 100 Metres, FORTUNE MAPLE was steadied away from the heels of A-TACK which shifted out. Close to the line, GOLDEN MILE was steadied when crowded for room between SILLY BOY and MR GENKI which was shifting to the inside of FORTUNE MAPLE and was awkwardly placed close to the heels of that horse. Throughout the race, SOLINUS raced wide and without cover. When questioned about the improved performance of SOUND OF SILENCE, Mr D A Hayes, trainer of the horse, said it had gradually been improving with race experience. He did point out at the horse's most recent start from a wide barrier it was caught wide and without cover throughout the race and consequently gave ground over the concluding stages. He said today from a more favourable draw SOUND OF SILENCE was able to enjoy a comfortable run throughout. CRESCENDO was sent for an official veterinary inspection. After the race, CRESCENDO was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed the horse to have a significant amount of blood in its trachea. As CRESCENDO had finished tailed out, the Stewards considered its performance to be unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, CRESCENDO will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. PEACH BLOSSOM, SOUND OF SILENCE and A-TACK were sent for sampling.
