Racing Incident Report

On jumping, JOY TRUMPS and MAGIC TEMPLE bumped. CLAWS OF THUNDER was slow to begin. From the outside barrier, COURAGEOUSHEART was ridden along to go forward, was unable to clear runners to its inside, as a result raced wide and without cover, then making the Home Turn hung out and in the Straight gave ground. Near the 1300 Metres, ON SHAN EXPRESS was carried wider by PLEDGE OF HONOR which got its head on the side and hung out. PLEDGE OF HONOR continued to hang out for the remainder of the race and on occasions hung out badly. Before being allowed to race again, PLEDGE OF HONOR will have to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial around a bend and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. After the 1200 Metres, CLAWS OF THUNDER was steadied when awkwardly placed close to the heels of CUPID and tight inside MAGIC TEMPLE. After the 200 Metres, JOY TRUMPS was momentarily crowded for room between SILVERBIRD and CHINA WORLD. Over the concluding stages, BOUNTIFUL got its head on the side, hung in and raced tight with JOY TRUMPS. Apprentice P H Lo (CUPID), 3rd placegetter, was told whilst the Stewards were satisfied his riding over the concluding stages did not affect the horse's finishing position, he should at all times ride his mounts out right to the winning post wherever possible at least hands and heels. W Woods (MAGIC TEMPLE) said approaching the Home Turn he was following FAIRPLAY which he thought would carry him forward into the race. He said he was aware he had CLEAN SWEEP racing to his outside and he did not think that horse would allow him running to improve to its inside. He said he therefore remained behind FAIRPLAY, however, that horse did not go forward when placed under pressure and as a consequence he was towards the inside of its heels. He said for him to have obtained running outside FAIRPLAY would have required him to steady his mount to be able to shift out across its heels, he therefore went to the inside of that runner in the hope of obtaining clear running. He said shortly afterwards CUPID which had been racing on the rail commenced to shift away and he anticipated clear running to the inside of that horse, so he shifted further inwards. He said however CUPID did not ever shift sufficiently to allow him to improve to its inside, so he then steadied and shifted back to the outside of that horse when FAIRPLAY gave further ground. He said after this MAGIC TEMPLE found the line strongly. The performance of CLAWS OF THUNDER, which finished detached, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, CLAWS OF THUNDER will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. FAIRPLAY, PLEDGE OF HONOR and CLAWS OF THUNDER were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of FAIRPLAY, PLEDGE OF HONOR and CLAWS OF THUNDER after the race did not show any significant findings. NOBLE WIND and CLEAN SWEEP were sent for sampling.
