Racing Incident Report

ENRICHING was slow to begin, then in the early stages raced ungenerously and hung in when tight inside BEST LUCK. On jumping, WIN AGAIN was bumped by BUMPER BUMPER which shifted out. Making the turn at the 1000 Metres, GREAT WIN hung out. At the 600 Metres, HONOUR SUPREME was steadied away from the heels of GALLANT KNIGHT. Near the 250 Metres, HONOUR SUPREME got its head up, shifted in and was steadied away from the heels of BUMPER BUMPER. At the 200 Metres, WIN AGAIN was again steadied when awkwardly placed close to the heels of GREAT WIN which was giving ground. Over the concluding stages, BUMPER BUMPER hung in and proved difficult to ride out. A Starke (MOVE IT) explained from the wide draw it was always intended to ride the horse in a rearward position. He said he was further instructed that he should make his run in the Home Straight between runners or close to the rail He said coming off the Home Turn MOVE IT was travelling nicely and he would have had to shift two horses wider to be in clear running, that would mean he would be on the outside of the field. He said having in mind what he believed to be firm riding instructions, he elected not to do so but rather shift his mount back in in an attempt to find a run through the field. He said as he did this it soon became apparent to him that he would have difficulty obtaining clear running and therefore he shifted his mount a considerable distance, it over-reacted and shifted further to the inside of BUMPER BUMPER. He said when this happened he straightened his mount to prevent causing interference to runners on his inside, he was then again unable to obtain clear running between CLASSIC NAVIGATOR and BUMPER BUMPER and as a result he steadied and shifted to the outside of BUMPER BUMPER near the 100 Metres. He said once in clear running MOVE IT closed the race off very strongly. He said he did not intend to shift in as far as he did looking for a run, however, the manner in which MOVE IT shifted caught him unaware. Mr T W Leung, the trainer of MOVE IT, confirmed the riding instructions issued to A Starke and said previously the horse has shown it does not close its races off strongly, making its run down the outside, but had shown at the end of last season a liking to racing in amongst horses. He said it was for this reason he instructed A Starke to make his run between other runners. A Starke was told whilst the Stewards accepted he was riding to the instructions he had been issued, he must at all times make himself aware of opportunities available to him and utilise them to his best advantage. When questioned regarding the poor performance of GREAT WIN, B Prebble said the horse began fairly, but then in its initial strides failed to muster speed. He said coming into the first turn at the 1000 Metres he was wide on the track and GREAT WIN was somewhat awkward and remained wide on the course. He said after this GREAT WIN commenced to travel better, went forward and shifted across to race outside OUR JET. He said after the 500 Metres GREAT WIN commenced to lay in and did not feel comfortable in its action. He said in the Straight GREAT WIN gave ground noticeably. GREAT WIN was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A subsequent veterinary inspection of GREAT WIN failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. The performance of GREAT WIN was considered unacceptable. Before being permitted to race again, GREAT WIN will have to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. MOVE IT was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of MOVE IT after the race did not show any significant findings. OUR JET and HONOUR SUPREME were sent for sampling.
