Racing Incident Report

MAGNIFIER was slow to begin. ASALI began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped SUPREME RABBIT. From a gate towards the outside, AGILITY was immediately steadied and shifted across behind runners to a position close to the rail but with cover. Then for some distance after this, AGILITY proved difficult to settle. At the 1600 Metres, RUSSIAN PEARL, which was proving difficult to settle, got its head up when awkwardly placed close to the heels of ASALI. In the early stages, LIBERAL'S CHOICE proved difficult to settle and for some distance after the 1000 Metres was awkwardly placed and lost ground when close to the heels of LUCKY GOOD DAY which was steadying in front of it. Also in the early stages, DYNAMIC FUN raced wide and without cover and near the 800 Metres was allowed to stride forward into the lead. After the 600 Metres, LIBERAL'S CHOICE was steadied when disappointed for running inside the heels of BEETHOVEN. At the 300 Metres, LUCKY SIXER was bumped on the hindquarters by LIBERAL'S CHOICE which when giving ground became unbalanced as a result of being brushed by RUSSIAN PEARL. At the 200 Metres, DYNAMIC FUN, which was giving ground, was checked when crowded for room between MAGNIFIER and SUPREME RABBIT which improved inside the heels of CLASSIC MASTER and was then carried in slightly by that horse. As in the opinion of the Stewards there were contributing circumstances to this incident, it was decided that no action be taken against any one rider. When questioned, P Payne (HIMALAYA) said approaching the 200 Metres when aware of interference occurring some distance in front of him, he became concerned that DYNAMIC FUN might fall. He said because of this for a short distance he stopped riding HIMALAYA along and shifted it out to make sure it would not be inconvenienced. The explanation submitted by P Payne was accepted. D Whyte (LUCKY SIXER) was unable to offer any explanation for the poor performance of the horse. He said its work leading up to today's race had been good and it travelled comfortably until the 500 Metres. He said after the 500 Metres LUCKY SIXER came under pressure to hold its position, then in the Straight did not close the race off. He said after the 200 Metres the manner in which LUCKY SIXER was travelling caused him concern and as the horse was obviously well beaten he did not continue to ride the horse out in the run to the line. LUCKY SIXER was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. A veterinary inspection of LUCKY SIXER after the race did not show any significant findings. LUCKY GOOD DAY and GIFT were sent for an official veterinary inspection. After the race, LUCKY GOOD DAY, which finished tailed off, was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed a significant amount of mucus in the horse's trachea. The performance of LUCKY GOOD DAY was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, LUCKY GOOD DAY will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. A veterinary inspection of GIFT after the race did not show any significant findings. RUSSIAN PEARL and AGILITY were sent for sampling.
