Racing Incident Report
LOK WAH TREASURE began very awkwardly and lost a significant amount of ground at the start. AMICABLE began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped LUCKY ENCOUNTER. After passing the winning post on the first occasion, AMICABLE and SPEED WINNER were crowded for room between TWEET and TORI TOP. In this incident, AMICABLE was steadied. B Doyle (TORI TOP) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that after the 1600 Metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of AMICABLE, causing that horse to be carried in across the rightful running of SAVINGS ACCOUNT which as a result was checked. B Doyle was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Thursday 30 September 2004 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays). The commencement of that suspension is deferred until after the Sha Tin racemeeting next Sunday 19 September 2004. In addition, B Doyle was fined $15,000 in lieu of a suspension for a period incorporating one further raceday. Near the 1300 Metres, LOK WAH TREASURE was momentarily crowded for room inside FORTUNE LAD. On straightening, LOK WAH TREASURE became unbalanced. Also on straightening, LUCKY ENCOUNTER (M Rodd), which was hanging in, clipped the heels of AMICABLE which at this time was giving ground, blundered and almost fell. As a result of this, M Rodd was almost dislodged. The occurrence in the opinion of the Stewards was accidental. Near the 250 Metres, SWEETIE, which was beginning to close the race off, was steadied and shifted out when disappointed for running between TWEET and SPEED WINNER which shifted in. For the major part of the race, FORTUNE LAD hung out. W M Lai (TWEET) said he had been instructed to endeavour to have the horse begin well and then ride it around midfield. He said TWEET began better than expected and consequently travelled in a more forward position behind the leaders. After the race when returning to the holding stalls, TWEET collapsed as a result of heat stress. Before being allowed to race again, TWEET will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. C Williams (FANTASTIC WINNER) said the horse was stepping up in distance tonight and the intention had been to ride in a forward position if possible, however, if it did not show enough speed, he should ride his own race. He said FANTASTIC WINNER did not begin well and failed to show any pace, he therefore allowed the horse to settle in a rearward position. He said at no stage of the race did FANTASTIC WINNER travel. The explanation submitted by C Williams was accepted. LUCKY ENCOUNTER was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. A veterinary examination of LUCKY ENCOUNTER after the race did not show any significant findings. LOK WAH TREASURE, MR PRESIDENT and MAESTRO were sent for sampling.
Additional Veterinary Reports (released on 16 September 2004)
LUCKY ENCOUNTER, which performed poorly, was examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer. He said at that time there were no significant findings. LUCKY ENCOUNTER was again examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer at the stables of Trainer T W Leung this morning. He said at this time he noted the horse to be lame in the right front leg. Before being allowed to race again, LUCKY ENCOUNTER will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
