Racing Incident Report
HAPPY TOGETHER was withdrawn on 19.6.04 on veterinary grounds (lame right fore) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter SUPER CATCHER (M Zahra). Before being allowed to race again, HAPPY TOGETHER will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. JOIN VICTORY began very awkwardly and bumped the inside gate of its stall, causing R Fradd, its rider, to become badly unbalanced. KING OF SPADES and LEAD TO WIN were slow to begin. Shortly after the start, SILVERBIRD was checked when crowded for room between WIN FOR ABALONE and MADE IN HONGKONG which shifted out after on jumping being bumped by SWEET SMILE. In this incident, WIN FOR ABALONE became unbalanced. After the 1300 Metres, JOIN VICTORY, which after having been ridden along to make ground, commenced to over-race and was steadied when tight inside MADE IN HONGKONG. For some distance after this, JOIN VICTORY continued to be awkwardly placed close to the heels of MADE IN HONGKONG and tight inside SWEET SMILE. After the 1000 Metres, SWEET SMILE got its head up when momentarily crowded for room inside TREASURE FIELD. SWEET SMILE continued to race awkwardly for some distance afterwards when close to the heels of BALL OF FIRE. After the 400 Metres, KING OF SPADES was held up and unable to obtain clear running. To obtain clear running, KING OF SPADES was steadied and shifted to the outside of GREAT SENSATION. Near the 100 Metres, BALL OF FIRE shifted in and bumped SILVERBIRD. Also near the 100 Metres, STEP FORWARD, which was giving ground, was steadied to avoid the heels of BALL OF FIRE (H K Yim) which shifted in when not properly clear. H K Yim was severely reprimanded and told in similar circumstances he must stop riding and straighten his mount. D Whyte (DESERT STRIKE) explained he had intended to ride the horse in a forward position with cover if possible. He said DESERT STRIKE began well, runners drawn to his outside immediately showed more pace than it did, so he attempted to find a position with cover. He said after shifting in behind SILLY BOY, DESERT STRIKE was not showing sufficient pace to go forward despite his riding, he therefore elected to take up a position behind WIN FOR ABALONE and SWEET SMILE. He said whilst he was further back than he had anticipated, this was the position in which DESERT STRIKE was able to travel comfortably. He said in the Straight DESERT STRIKE whilst making some ground did not close the race off as he had hoped, near the 200 Metres commenced to hang in and because of this he momentarily steadied away from the heels of STEP FORWARD. JOIN VICTORY, SILVERBIRD and SILLY BOY were sent for sampling.
