Racing Incident Report
DANCING BOY began awkwardly, shortly afterwards became unbalanced when bumped by BROWN BEAUTY which was carried out by SPECTACULAR HIT which after bounding in the air at the start was then carried out by DOLBRIDGE which on jumping shifted ground. WAIALAE WIN began awkwardly. After the 2100 Metres, WAIALAE WIN and SHOW BRAVELY were tightened for room inside BOUNTIFUL. Shortly after this, SHOW BRAVELY got its head up. At the 1900 Metres, WAIALAE WIN got its head up when being restrained, shifted out and made contact with SHOW BRAVELY. After this, WAIALAE WIN shifted back in and caused inconvenience on its inside to CUPID which as a result was checked. Also at the 1900 Metres, TURBOJET was bumped on the hindquarters by DOLBRIDGE which shifted out away from the heels of WE'RE BUDDIES when proving difficult to settle. Near the 1600 Metres, SHOW BRAVELY got its head up when being steadied away from the heels of BOUNTIFUL. Near the 1000 Metres, as the pace had been steadied, BOUNTIFUL got its head up. Prior to the 200 Metres, WAIALAE WIN was steadied and shifted out away from the heels of TURBOJET which was giving ground. After the 200 Metres, DOLBRIDGE had some difficulty obtaining clear running between HIGH SKY and BOUNTIFUL. Near the 100 Metres, BOUNTIFUL was shifted out to obtain clear running and as a result of this DANCING BOY was momentarily steadied when disappointed for running between ENORMOUS WAY and DOLBRIDGE. A Marcus (HIGH SKY) said prior to the race it had been decided to ride the horse where it was comfortable depending on the manner in which it began. He said HIGH SKY began only fairly, he shifted it across to a position with cover, however, near the 1900 Metres the horse began to pull, was awkwardly placed close to the heels of SHOW BRAVELY and shifted out to a three wide position entering the Straight on the first occasion. He said at this time it appeared to him that the pace in the race was coming off, so he elected to allow HIGH SKY to travel forward in the hope of being able to obtain a position behind TURBOJET and in front of BOUNTIFUL. He said however when he did this, BOUNTIFUL held its position towards his inside, therefore passing the winning post on the first occasion he decided to again ride forward in the hope of being able to cross to the fence in the lead to avoid being caught wide. He said when he did this, WE'RE BUDDIES was ridden along on his inside to maintain the fence and he shifted across to race outside that horse. He said as in his opinion HIGH SKY is somewhat one-paced when racing over longer distances, near the 800 Metres he again elected to ride forward in the hope of being able to cross WE'RE BUDDIES and then he would be able to control the tempo of the race. He said when he did this, WE'RE BUDDIES was again ridden along to maintain the rail on his inside and he therefore remained racing outside that horse. BOUNTIFUL, SPECTACULAR HIT and BROWN BEAUTY were sent for sampling. After the race, D Whyte (CUPID) reported the horse was not striding out freely. The horse was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said there were no significant findings.
