Racing Incident Report
TOY QUEST was slow to begin. On jumping, ONE STEP AHEAD got its head up and shortly afterwards was crowded for room between INSIDE MAIL and CHINSOLA which was carried out by KING OF FISH. Near the 800 Metres, TOY QUEST was steadied when awkwardly placed close to the heels of KIMBERLEY MINES. At the 700 Metres, INSIDE MAIL was steadied and shifted out away from the heels of LUCKY STALLION. This caused some inconvenience to GREEN CENTURY which was following. After the 600 Metres, GREEN CENTURY was steadied when disappointed for running between KING OF FISH and INSIDE MAIL. Near the 200 Metres, KING OF FISH was bumped by LUCKY STALLION which when giving ground shifted in. Near the 100 Metres, CHINSOLA was steadied and shifted to the inside of JOLLY GAINS which was giving ground. When questioned, Mr D E Ferraris, the trainer of the winner, GOODY, explained three starts ago the horse when ridden by Apprentice M W Leung got back and closed the race off strongly. He said at its next start with an increase in distance, he issued riding instructions for the horse to be ridden more prominently which was done, however, the horse on this occasion did not close the race off and in his opinion was somewhat disappointing. He said because of this the horse at its most recent start when again ridden by Apprentice M W Leung, he issued instructions to have the horse ridden quietly in the hope that it would finish off. He said after getting well back, GOODY closed the race off strongly. He said today having drawn more favourably on a track which appeared to be suiting horses racing closer to the speed, he asked R Fradd if possible to have GOODY in a forward position. He did say however had the horse drawn wide, he would again have issued riding instructions to have the horse ridden more quietly. He did point out regardless of where it had been ridden in the race, GOODY had overall been performing most consistently. Mr Ferraris was advised in the circumstances his explanation was accepted. INSIDE MAIL was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. After the race, INSIDE MAIL was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said the horse was displaying a heart irregularity. Before being allowed to race again, INSIDE MAIL will have to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. GOODY and TRIUMPHANT UNICORN were sent for sampling.
