Racing Incident Report
DIAMOND MOON was withdrawn on raceday afternoon on veterinary grounds (multiple lacerations sustained in its Happy Valley holding stall). Before being allowed to race again, DIAMOND MOON will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. JUST A MARTIAN began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped the hindquarters of OUT OF MY WAY. Shortly after the start, TOP PRIZE was steadied when crowded for room between OUT OF MY WAY and EARL GREY. Near the winning post on the first occasion, DANRIVA was steadied away from the heels of COSMO SUCCESS. Near the 1100 Metres, OUT OF MY WAY was awkwardly placed close to the heels of DANRIVA. Near the 700 Metres, GREENMORE was steadied when awkwardly placed close to the heels of OUT OF MY WAY. Near the 600 Metres, JUST A MARTIAN got its head on the side, shifted in and bumped OUT OF MY WAY. Near the 500 Metres, OUT OF MY WAY became badly unbalanced and lost its position when crowded for room between DANRIVA which had its head on the side, was hanging out and shifted ground slightly and JUST A MARTIAN which again got its head on the side and shifted in. No action was taken. Making the Home Turn, TOP PRIZE got its head up, then in the Straight drifted wider on the track when being ridden out. After the 200 Metres, GREENMORE was shifted to the outside of COUNTRY BOY to continue going forward. Apprentice P H Lo (STRONG GALLOP) said he had been instructed to lead on the horse if possible or otherwise to sit in 2nd or 3rd position. He said in accordance with those instructions he rode STRONG GALLOP which was having its first start in blinkers tonight along in the early stages, however, three horses went forward with him on his inside. He said after the 1600 Metres he elected to press on to avoid the possibility of being caught wide and without cover and this required him to make some use of STRONG GALLOP. He said after crossing to the fence in the lead near the winning post on the first occasion, he immediately attempted to steady the horse and slow the pace, however, the horse would not respond to his efforts and continued on at a quicker pace than he wished. Apprentice Lo was told his explanation would be recorded and whilst the Stewards accepted STRONG GALLOP would not settle after reaching the lead, he was advised against making too much use of horses in circumstances such as tonight. OUT OF MY WAY was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. A veterinary examination of OUT OF MY WAY after the race did not show any significant findings. COSMO SUCCESS and DANRIVA were sent for sampling. After the race, it was reported COUNTRY BOY had lost its left hind plate.
