Racing Incident Report
After arriving at the Start, the tongue tie on BEING FAMOUS, which loosened during the parade, was refitted. TAIJI SPIRIT, which was to be ridden in a rearward position today, got its head up on jumping and lost ground. LUCKY SUPERSTAR began awkwardly, bumped the outside gate of its stall, then was steadied away from the heels of CHINESE KID which on jumping got its head up and shifted in abruptly. SOLAR began awkwardly. PREMIER CRU was slow to begin and shortly afterwards was steadied when crowded for room between KING OF THE TURF and CHING HOI BOY. On several occasions after the 600 Metres until after straightening, BEING FAMOUS was bumped by HANDBAG PREMIER (Apprentice H W Lai) which was endeavouring to shift to the outside of SHERWOOD FOREST. Apprentice Lai was told in similar circumstances he should not endeavour to shift out in the manner which he had on this occasion. In the Straight, CHING HOI BOY hung in and proved difficult to ride. W Woods (CHINESE KID), which was having its first start today from an enforced lay-off as a result of having bled, said it was his intention to ride the horse quietly in the early stages and ensure it was properly balanced, then in the Straight attempt to save ground and make sure the horse closed the race off. He said after the 600 Metres he was in a two wide position, LUCKY VICTORIES was racing to his outside, he elected on straightening to come back to the inside of CHING HOI BOY where he rode his mount along hands and heels, had some difficulty in the early stages of the Straight obtaining clear running, however, at all times was able to go forward and near the 200 Metres improved between CHING HOI BOY and KING OF THE TURF. He said he continued to ride CHINESE KID along hands and heels, however, the horse's run ended about 50 Metres short of the line. CHING HOI BOY and SHERWOOD FOREST were sent for a clinical veterinary examination. After the race, CHING HOI BOY and SHERWOOD FOREST were examined by the Veterinary Officer who said there were no significant abnormalities. NOBLE HEART and SOLAR were sent for sampling.
Additional Veterinary Reports (released on 3 May 2004)
SHERWOOD FOREST, which performed poorly, was examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer. He said at that time there were no significant findings. SHERWOOD FOREST was again examined by the Head of Veterinary Regulation & International Liaison at the stables of Trainer J Moore yesterday morning. He said at this time the horse was found to be lame in the left front leg. Before being allowed to race again, SHERWOOD FOREST will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
