Racing Incident Report

As the gates opened, RED POWER, which was standing with its head turned to the left, began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped the hindquarters of DOUBLE HAPPINESS. On jumping, BUMPER BUMPER and AGILITY bumped. Also on jumping, DASHING CHAMPION stumbled. MY CHOICE was a little slow to begin. Shortly after the start, BUMPER BUMPER was steadied away from the heels of GREEN CENTURY which shifted out. Near the 1300 Metres, WHATABOB was steadied away from the heels of LUCKY STALLION which shifted in when barely clear. Near the 1200 Metres, DOUBLE HAPPINESS was momentarily steadied when awkwardly placed close to the heels of MY CHOICE. In the early stages, AGILITY proved somewhat difficult to settle and near the 1100 Metres was steadied away from the heels of KIDDYLAND (D Whyte) which shifted in. D Whyte explained for some time leading up to this incident, he looked to his inside to ensure he was clear of AGILITY prior to shifting. At the 800 Metres, BUMPER BUMPER was steadied when racing tight outside MADE JOY and inside the heels of AGILITY. At the 500 Metres, DANEHILL WARRIOR shifted out, this caused some inconvenience to KIDDYLAND which was racing to its outside. Making the Home Turn and in the early part of the Straight, MY CHOICE was bumped on several occasions and carried wider by AGILITY (W Woods) which was shifting towards the outside of DASHING CHAMPION to obtain clear running. W Woods was told whilst the Stewards appreciate competitive riding, there is a limit to how far one can go and on this occasion whilst he had not exceeded that limit, his riding had come close to breaching a serious rule. Near the 300 Metre, MY CHOICE shifted in and bumped AGILITY. Also near the 300 Metres, BUMPER BUMPER had some difficulty obtaining clear running and was then steadied and shifted to the outside of DASHING CHAMPION to go forward. After the 300 Metres, MOVE IT was steadied when disappointed for running inside GREEN CENTURY. After the 200 Metres, BUMPER BUMPER got its head on the side, shifted in and made contact with DASHING CHAMPION. Over the concluding stages, KIDDYLAND hung in. J Holder (WHATABOB) said he had been instructed to ride the horse quietly as it was felt at its last start when racing over 1400 Metres it had failed to see the distance out. He said WHATABOB began fairly, he then felt if he were to ride the horse along, it would commence to over-race and having in mind his instructions he allowed it to settle which meant he was a little further back than intended. He said WHATABOB travelled kindly throughout the run and in the Straight when placed under pressure responded nicely, however, over about the last 100 Metres was unable to obtain clear running between DASHING CHAMPION and KIDDYLAND and because of this was not ridden out in the manner it normally would be. MADE JOY was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. After the race, MADE JOY was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed a significant amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, MADE JOY will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. SCINTILLATION and AGILITY were sent for sampling.
