Racing Incident Report
After being boxed, WAVY PEAK was very fractious in the stalls. Before being allowed to race again, WAVY PEAK will have to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test. SHINING GEM, which was standing badly, bounded in the air at the start, bumped the outside gate of its stall and consequently lost ground. KIWI DASH began awkwardly, shifted in, was then steadied away from the hindquarters of DR WELL and shortly after this was bumped by MYTHIC STEED which shifted in after being bumped by THE ONLY ONE. Near the 1200 Metre, KIWI DASH, which was proving difficult to settle, shifted out when being steadied away from the heels of THE ONLY ONE and bumped MYTHIC STEED, causing both horses to become unbalanced. Near the 1000 Metres, KIWI DASH, which was continuing to prove difficult to settle, was hampered when crowded for room by MYTHIC STEED which shifted in when being steadied away from the heels of THE ONLY ONE which steadied in front. No action was taken. In the middle stages, FAVOURITE EXPRESS hung out. Throughout the race, SUPER MARKSMAN raced wide and without cover. Apprentice C W Wong (GREAT STAR) said he had been instructed by Mr J Moore, the trainer of the horse, to ride it in a forward position. He said it was anticipated ISLAND SPIRIT would go forward and he would race towards the outside of that horse. He said on jumping GREAT STAR got its head up, because of this he became unbalanced, was sat back in the saddle which then resulted in him getting on the mouth of GREAT STAR, applying further pressure to it and consequently losing ground. He said after this he allowed GREAT STAR to shift across to race on the fence, but was behind midfield and further back than intended. He said near the 200 Metres he steadied and shifted out to avoid the heels of KIWI DASH which shifted in slightly. He said after this when again balanced GREAT STAR finished the race off fairly. While the explanation of Apprentice Wong was accepted, he was told he should always do his utmost to ensure his horses obtain a clean start. G Mossé (FUJI SUNRISE), which was having its first start in blinkers today, said the intention from a wide gate had again been to ride the horse in a rearward position. He said FUJI SUNRISE travelled like an inexperienced horse in the run, was not suited by the moderate tempo of the race, however, in the run to the line did make nice ground, particularly over the concluding stages. FUJI SUNRISE was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. A veterinary examination of FUJI SUNRISE after the race did not show any significant findings. SUNRISE RAINBOW, FAVOURITE EXPRESS and DR WELL were sent for sampling.
