Racing Incident Report
DYNAMIC COMBO and FREE WAY were slow to begin. GRASS HOPPER bounded in the air when the gates opened, then on landing shifted out abruptly, causing HANDBAG FORTUNE to be carried out and in turn caused crowding on its outside to MIGHTY POWER which as a result was checked. On jumping, FLYING EAGLE got its head up. SOLDIER ON began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped NOBLE CRUSADER. In the early stages, LUCKY DRAGON, ALL FIT and GIFTED RUNNER raced tight and made contact on several occasions. Near the 800 Metres, HANDBAG FORTUNE was steadied and shifted to the outside of LUCKY DRAGON. Approaching the 400 Metres, HANDBAG FORTUNE (O Doleuze) shifted out, resulting in FLYING EAGLE which was racing on its outside being obliged to race in restricted room. At the 400 Metres, the shoulder of FLYING EAGLE made contact with the hindquarters of HANDBAG FORTUNE. After this, FLYING EAGLE shifted out across the heels of HANDBAG FORTUNE and was checked severely. In the opinion of the Stewards, FLYING EAGLE had contributed to this incident, however, they severely reprimanded O Doleuze and told him in similar circumstances he would be expected to allow other runners greater racing room. Over the concluding stages, ALL FIT hung out and NOBLE CRUSADER hung in. Also over the concluding stages, MIGHTY POWER got its head up and raced ungenerously. FLYING EAGLE was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. After the race, FLYING EAGLE was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He noted the horse had sustained a laceration to the right front cannon and he also said an endoscopic examination showed the horse to have a significant amount of mucus in its trachea. Before being permitted to race again, FLYING EAGLE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. NOBLE CRUSADER and SOLDIER ON were sent for sampling.
