Racing Incident Report
After being boxed, KAO AND MING became fractious, reared and dislodged O Doleuze, its rider. KAO AND MING then began awkwardly. KINGSTON GLORY began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped THE ONLY ONE. On jumping, TRIUMPHANT GLORY and LUCKY VICTORIES bumped. TAIJI SPIRIT began awkwardly, then shortly afterwards was steadied away from the heels of UNIVERSAL PIONEER which shifted in. PREMIER CRU was slow to begin. After the 200 Metres, JOYFUL WORLD was momentarily steadied when crowded for room inside BARFOLD HERO which shifted in when being ridden out. In the Straight, TAIJI SPIRIT hung in. Throughout the race, OSCAR STAR raced three wide and without cover but in a forward position. R Fradd (BARFOLD HERO) said the intention had been to ride the horse in midfield or a little further forward. He said he had also been instructed to ensure that he did not reach the lead too early as previously the horse had shown a tendency not to finish the race right off after reaching the lead too soon. He said BARFOLD HERO began well, he then let the horse become properly balanced by allowing it to stride, however, near the 1200 Metres he steadied when crowded for room inside SUPER MARKSMAN which shifted in when not properly clear. He said because of this he was further back than he had hoped. He said after being crossed by SUPER MARKSMAN, he shifted to race outside that horse as in his opinion it was struggling to hold its position and would not have been a good horse to follow. He said in the early part of the Straight he shifted his mount to the outside of JOYFUL WORLD into clear running, but did not ride along immediately because of the instructions he had been issued which in his opinion were specific. He said after the 300 Metres he commenced to ride BARFOLD HERO along hands and heels, near the 200 Metres pulled the whip on the horse and it then closed the race off nicely. Mr S Woods, the trainer of BARFOLD HERO, confirmed the instructions issued to R Fradd. When questioned regarding what appeared on the face of it to be an improved performance by UNIVERSAL PIONEER, Mr J Moore, the trainer of the horse, said he believed the horse was well weighted in tonight's race, was suited by racing on a track with some cut in it and being able to obtain an uncontested lead. Mr Moore did say UNIVERSAL PIONEER's winning was somewhat of a surprise to him. TRIUMPHANT GLORY was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. A veterinary examination of TRIUMPHANT GLORY after the race did not show any significant findings. UNIVERSAL PIONEER and BARFOLD HERO were sent for sampling.
