Racing Incident Report
During its preliminary, NAMJONG TREASURE collapsed near the 1100 Metres. Acting on veterinary advice, the Stewards ordered the withdrawal of the horse. On jumping, GOOD WIN got its head up. DYNAMIC COMBO and GOLD MASTER were slow to begin. Shortly after the start, TAIJI SPIRIT and MOUNTAIN TREASURE were crowded for room inside KING PALM which shifted in. Shortly after this, THE FACULTY was checked severely when crowded for room between HEALTHY HEART which got its head on the side and shifted in and KING PALM which was shifting out to relieve the pressure it had been applying to runners on its inside. In the circumstances, no action was taken. Making the turn near the 1000 Metres, WELL EXPRESS hung out. Near the 600 Metres, SOUTH CHINA NINETY became unbalanced as a result of hanging in and bumping the running rail. Near the 500 Metres, TAIJI SPIRIT and SOUTH CHINA NINETY made contact. Making the turn near the 500 Metres, GOLD MASTER hung out and made contact with KING PALM. Making the Home Turn, GOLD MASTER was steadied when crowded for room inside TAIJI SPIRIT. Throughout the race, HEALTHY HEART raced wide and without cover. D Whyte (KING PALM) said approaching the first turn he elected to steady and shift back behind TAIJI SPIRIT to a position closer to the rail as in his opinion the ground was superior near the rail. He also pointed out KING PALM can prove very difficult to settle and he was therefore keen to ensure he obtained cover as soon as possible. He said approaching the 800 Meters KING PALM was proving difficult to settle and obliging him to steady away from the heels of TAIJI SPIRIT. He added prior to straightening it appeared to him that TAIJI SPIRIT was going to make its run on the outside of PRO JOY, he therefore commenced to ride along and improve his position inside TAIJI SPIRIT, but as he did this, TAIJI SPIRIT shifted in, causing him to check his mount. He said after this in the Straight he shifted KING PALM to the outside and the horse finished the race off nicely. When questioned, K S Yu (MOUNTAIN TREASURE) said after straightening he commenced to ride his mount along and as it began to improve its position, GOLD MASTER shifted in on its outside, because of this he steadied his mount and shifted it to a position behind GOLD MASTER. He said after this MOUNTAIN TREASURE did not close the race off as he would have liked. K S Yu conceded after looking at the film that after being crowded by GOLD MASTER, that horse then shifted out which left available running to his inside. He was told his riding in the Straight had come under notice and he should at all times endeavour to take opportunities which exist for him to improve his position. A Delpech (TAIJI SPIRIT) said the horse travelled comfortably in the run, near the 800 Metres commenced to pull and was steadied away from the heels of PRO JOY. He said after this he continued to follow PRO JOY, near the 400 Metres shifted out to commence making his run around that horse which at that time also commenced to shift out. He said when this happened TAIJI SPIRIT was awkwardly placed close to the heels of PRO JOY, became unbalanced and shifted in. He said after this incident TAIJI SPIRIT did not stride out and in his opinion was disappointing. WELL EXPRESS was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. A veterinary examination of WELL EXPRESS after the race did not show any significant findings. TAIJI SPIRIT, GOOD WIN and SOUTH CHINA NINETY were sent for sampling.
