Racing Incident Report

HOT PRACTITIONER bounded in the air as the gates opened, then on landing knuckled and shifted out abruptly across the running of FLYING EAGLE which as a result was checked. On jumping, TROPHY and BUDDIES SPIRIT bumped. MIGHTY POWER began awkwardly, got its head up, then in the early stages raced very ungenerously and on a number of occasions got its head up. FUJI SUNRISE was slow to begin. Near the 1000 Metres, FUJI SUNRISE was shifted out abruptly after having got its head on the side and shifting in, causing some crowding to FLYING EAGLE. Making the turn at the 800 Metres, TAKING THE LEAD became unbalanced after being bumped on the hindquarters by STAMINA. Prior to straightening, MIGHTY POWER was steadied when awkwardly placed close to the heels of FLYING EAGLE. On straightening, GIFTED RUNNER was bumped by TROPHY which shifted to the outside of ROYAL EXCHANGE into clear running. In the early part of the Straight, BUDDIES SPIRIT hung in, shifted to a position behind ROYAL EXCHANGE which was giving ground and then near the 300 Metres was shifted to the outside of that horse to obtain clear running. O Doleuze (TROPHY) was fined $2,000 for making a celebratory gesture prior to the winning post. Mr P F Yiu, the trainer of TROPHY, said when the horse last raced over 1400 Metres, he had instructed the rider, A Marcus, to have the horse in midfield. He said throughout the race TROPHY seemed to lose interest and not put in a full effort. He said because of this he decided to add blinkers to the gear in which TROPHY was to race. He said he again sought the services of A Marcus, however, he was told it was intended for him to ride another horse in the race, he therefore engaged O Doleuze for today's race. He said today in blinkers TROPHY appeared to race far more truly and was able to travel further forward than it had in recent starts. The explanation submitted by Mr Yiu was accepted. FLYING EAGLE, TROPHY and BUDDIES SPIRIT were sent for sampling.
