Racing Incident Report
SUPER SPRINT was withdrawn on 2.3.04 on veterinary grounds (lame left fore) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter TRICCOLO (A Marcus). Before being allowed to race again, SUPER SPRINT will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. When the gates opened, ARMONDO put its head down and consequently was very slow to begin. ARMONDO was then ridden along vigorously to race in a forward position and in the Straight gave ground. SHERIFF BAMBOO was slow to begin. CORAJOSO began awkwardly, bumped the outside gate of its stall, then shifted further and bumped the hindquarters of WINNING SUNSHINE. Near the 1200 Metres, ALL THE BEST was awkwardly placed close to the heels of WINNING SUNSHINE. At the 500 Metres, DESERT STRIKE, which was being ridden along to hold its position, was carried wider by KONRAD THE GREAT which shifted to the outside of TRICCOLO to improve. On straightening, DANRIVA was steadied and shifted to the outside of KONRAD THE GREAT to obtain clear running. Over the final 200 Metres, WINNING SUNSHINE hung in and proved difficult to ride out. When questioned regarding the improved performance of DANRIVA, Mr J Size, trainer of the horse, explained the horse had its three prior runs this season at Sha Tin. He said in his opinion the horse did not appear to be finishing its races off when racing at Sha Tin and pointed out its only success at that track was on rain affected ground. He said tonight DANRIVA although drawn wide was able to find a favourable position on the rail in the early stags which it held for the majority of the race. He said when other runners commenced to make their runs wide on the track, this enabled DANRIVA to obtain a nice run through the field. He said in his opinion the horse appreciates racing on Happy Valley surface more so than Sha Tin when there has not been any rain. The explanation of Mr Size was accepted. C Williams (CORAJOSO) explained after entering the Back Straight the horse raced awkwardly, shifted out towards FLYING SUCCESS and made contact with that horse near the 900 Metres. He said CORAJOSO continued to race awkwardly along the Back Straight and rounding the turn and because of this he elected to keep his mount properly balanced making the turn and then in the Straight followed KONRAD THE GREAT through. The explanation submitted by C Williams was accepted. FLYING SUCCESS was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. After the race, FLYING SUCCESS was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said there were no significant findings. KONRAD THE GREAT, DANRIVA and WINNING SUNSHINE were sent for sampling.
