Racing Incident Report
After arriving at the Start, SHANE, which had been backed into by another horse in the Parade Ring, was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon. He said after the necessary consultations the horse was considered suitable to race. Just prior to the gates opening, LITTLE ELEPHANT lunged forward and broke open its front gate momentarily before other gates opened. Then throughout the race, LITTLE ELEPHANT raced wide and without cover and in the Straight gave ground. KIDDY SING began awkwardly and bumped the outside gate of its stall. NATIVE DREAM was a little slow to begin and shortly afterwards was steadied away from the heels of NILOMETER which turned its head on the side and shifted in. In the early stages, WINNING KEVIN, which was being ridden in a rearward position, proved difficult to settle and on a number of occasions got its head up. After the 500 Metres, NATIVE DREAM was awkwardly placed inside the heels of AIN'T HERE. On straightening, AIN'T HERE was steadied and shifted to the outside of SHANE to obtain clear running. D Boeuf (FLORAL DYNAMITE) explained today he had been instructed to ride the horse back in the field. He said FLORAL DYNAMITE, which had been aimed at the Derby, was stepping up to 1800 Metres today and it was hoped by removing the visor from the horse and having it ridden more quietly the horse would finish off. He said whilst FLORAL DYNAMITE did make some ground in the Straight, he would have expected it to finish more strongly than it did given the nice run it had enjoyed. SATURN and SHANE were sent for sampling.
