Racing Incident Report
On jumping, SHAXI FORTUNE blundered. COME SEE YOU and WINTROW were slow to begin. M Kinane (ALL THRILLS TOO) dropped his whip near the 300 Metres. At the 300 Metres, PALETTE NATURAL was disappointed for running between PRIME WITNESS which commenced to shift out and ALL THRILLS TOO which shifted in. For some distance after this, PALETTE NATURAL was unable to obtain clear running between ALL THRILLS TOO and GEM OF INDIA. To obtain clear running after the 200 Metres, PALETTE NATURAL was shifted to the outside of GEM OF INDIA. After the 200 Metres, PRIME WITNESS was steadied away from the heels of ALL THRILLS TOO. In the Straight, CLEMENT SUPREME hung in. C Williams (CHEERFUL FORTUNE) said he had only ridden the horse in one trial of recent times and in his opinion this trial was only fair although the horse did travel in a more relaxed manner than it had previously. He said today he was instructed to ensure the horse, which was having its first start over 1400 Metres, was ridden with cover as it was vital not to be on the outside as the horse had previously hung out and proved difficult to settle in its races. He said CHEERFUL FORTUNE today began well, he immediately came back to look for cover, was racing outside COME SEE YOU and was going to be left without cover, he therefore came back to follow that horse to carry out his instructions. He said he continued to follow COME SEE YOU into the Home Straight, shifted to the outside of that horse, commenced to ride CHEERFUL FORTUNE hands and heels, the horse initially responded and at the 300 Metres he considered himself to be a good chance of winning the race. He went on to say over the concluding stages of the race CHEERFUL FORTUNE's run levelled out and in fact PALETTE NATURAL ran away from him. Trainer T W Leung confirmed the riding instructions and said the horse in its work had been more settled, but in his opinion it must have cover to perform in races. He said he was completely satisfied with the riding of C Williams on CHEERFUL FORTUNE today although circumstances meant that the horse raced a little further back than he would have liked. Mr Leung and C Williams were told the riding of CHEERFUL FORTUNE in the early stages had come under notice and they were also told where possible to ensure horses are ridden consistently and in a manner which is not open to query. CHEERFUL FORTUNE was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. A veterinary examination of CHEERFUL FORTUNE after the race did not reveal any significant abnormalities. FIGURES and GEM OF INDIA were sent for sampling.
