Racing Incident Report

After being boxed, FANTASTICO became fractious, broke through and was then restrained after travelling only a short distance. FANTASTICO was returned to the Start where it was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon and after the necessary consultations was considered suitable to race. Before being allowed to race again, FANTASTICO will have to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test. While the Veterinary Surgeon was inspecting FANTASTICO, WIKI WIKI kicked out behind and sustained abrasions to both hocks. WIKI WIKI was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon who said in his opinion the horse was not suitable to race. Acting on this advice, the Stewards ordered the withdrawal of WIKI WIKI. Before being permitted to race again, WIKI WIKI will have to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test. GRASS HOPPER began awkwardly and bumped the inside gate of its stall. FUNNY FACE began awkwardly and shortly afterwards was bumped by ELETTARIN which shifted out. Shortly after the start, WINWIN COMBINATION was bumped by MR GENKI which shifted in after being bumped by FANTASTICO which on jumping shifted ground. Also shortly after the start, MELOS and HAPI HAPI bumped. Near the 700 Metres, HAPI HAPI got its head up when momentarily crowed for room between MELOS which shifted in slightly and GRASS HOPPER which shifted out. After this, GRASS HOPPER raced greenly and was close to the heels of DOUCAI. Making the Home Turn, HAPI HAPI raced tight inside GRASS HOPPER. F Coetzee (MR GENKI) explained the horse had trialed twice leading into tonight's race, most recently over 1000 Metres at Sha Tin. He said on that occasion the horse began well and led throughout, however, continually changed legs in the trial. He said tonight he was slightly tightened for room more or less on jumping, however, this was of little significance. He said he then rode MR GENKI along, the horse raced greenly and for some distance after the 600 Metres got its head up when close to the heels of ELETTARIN, then approaching the 500 Metres became unbalanced, blundered and lost further ground. He said on straightening MR GENKI again became unbalanced and after the 200 Metres was momentarily steadied away from the heels of GRASS HOPPER which shifted out when improving. He said after this MR GENKI did not close the race off and in his opinion tonight's performance could be attributed to inexperience. When MR GENKI blundered near the 500 Metres, GRASS HOPPER, which was following, was inconvenienced. MR GENKI was sent for a clinical veterinary examination and sampling. A veterinary examination of MR GENKI after the race did not show any significant findings. MELOS was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. After the race, MELOS was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said the horse was lame in the right front leg. Before being allowed to race again, MELOS will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. FANTASTICO and ELETTARIN were sent for sampling.
