Racing Incident Report
When the gates opened, JOY AND TREASURE bounded in the air and lost a considerable amount of ground. CLASSA FOR EVER was a little slow to begin and shortly afterwards got its head up and lost further ground when being steadied away from the heels of REAL THRILLS which on jumping shifted out. On jumping, PLEDGE OF HONOR and WINNING CAT bumped. GREAT ACHIEVEMENT bounded in the air at the start. For some distance after the 500 Metres, CLASSA FOR EVER was held up when unable to obtain clear running between MAN ON THE MOON and REAL THRILLS which at that stage was commencing to give ground. On two occasions near the 300 Metres, CLASSA FOR EVER was steadied when crowded for room inside REAL THRILLS which got its head on the side and shifted in away from COULDN'T CARE LESS which when placed under pressure hung in. In the circumstances, no action was taken. Over the concluding stages, COULDN'T CARE LESS continued to hang in. After the 200 Metres, BINGSON was steadied and shifted out when disappointed for running between WINNING CAT and GREAT ACHIEVEMENT (D Whyte) which had its head on the side and shifted in. D Whyte was reprimanded and told in similar circumstances he would be expected to exercise more care. Throughout the race, PLEDGE OF HONOR raced greenly, near the 500 Metres shifted out abruptly and then hung out for the remainder of the race. A Marcus (MAN ON THE MOON) was unable to offer any explanation for the poor performance of the horse. He said MAN ON THE MOON travelled well until the 600 Metres when he commenced to urge the horse forward, however, it did not respond to his riding and kept on only fairly. He said following the race he did not feel there was anything amiss with MAN ON THE MOON. PLEDGE OF HONOR was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. After the race, PLEDGE OF HONOR was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said there were no significant findings. MAN ON THE MOON, WINNING CAT and GREAT ACHIEVEMENT were sent for sampling.
