Racing Incident Report
On jumping, EVEREST sprawled and became badly unbalanced. SUNDAY DELIGHT was slow to begin. Shortly after the start, DYNAMIC COMBO was bumped by EVEREST which was carried in by MAGICAL WARRIOR which got its head on the side and shifted away from TIRAMISU. As a consequence of these incidents, EVEREST got well back. Near the 1300 Metres, SUNDAY DELIGHT got its head up when racing tight inside FORTUNE BUILDER and close to the heels of FOREVER WIN. Near the 600 Metres, EVEREST when being ridden along to maintain its position got its head on the side, shifted in away from FORTUNE BUILDER and became unbalanced when close to the heels of SUNDAY DELIGHT. For some distance near the 500 Metres, SUNDAY DELIGHT raced tight inside the hindquarters of FIRST KNIGHT. Throughout the race, O' SHINY raced wide and without cover. After the 100 Metres, FIRST KNIGHT was momentarily steadied away from the heels of LONGMARK which was giving ground. When questioned regarding looking to his inside on a number of occasions after entering the Back Straight, W M Lai (FIRST KNIGHT) said he was endeavouring to obtain a position behind FOREVER WIN on the rail as in his opinion the pattern of racing tonight suited horses racing on the rail. He said when he looked to his inside, SUNDAY DELIGHT held a position behind FOREVER WIN, therefore he was unable to shift in. He said he continued to look in the hope that SUNDAY DELIGHT would drop back and allow him the opportunity to follow FOREVER WIN, however, this did not occur. Mr D Hill, the trainer of FIRST KNIGHT, advised the Stewards he had instructed W M Lai that he was to do his utmost to ensure the horse raced on the fence. The explanation of W M Lai was accepted. EVEREST was sent for a clinical veterinary examination and sampling. MAGICAL WARRIOR was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. A veterinary examination of EVEREST and MAGICAL WARRIOR after the race did not show any significant findings. FOREVER WIN and CITI CENTRE were sent for sampling.
