Racing Incident Report
On jumping, MYTHIC STEED was crowded for room between TEAM WIN and ARIGATO, both of which shifted ground. Also on jumping, MILLION CHASE shifted out and bumped the hindquarters of TELECOM CAESAR. BUDDIES SPIRIT began awkwardly and shifted out. Shortly after the start, MILLION CHASE was momentarily steadied when awkwardly placed inside the heels of SOUTH CHINA NINETY. ARIGATO got its head up and made the first turn awkwardly when placed close to the heels of GREAT IDEA, then making the turn at the 600 Metres hung out. In the early stages, TEAM WIN raced wide and without cover. Near the 800 Metres, EASY GAME, which was racing greenly, shifted out abruptly when being steadied away from the heels of MYTHIC STEED which shifted out slightly. Near the 600 Metres, SALENTINO was steadied away from the heels of MYTHIC STEED. Making the turn at the 600 Metres, MILLION CHASE was momentarily crowded for room inside SOUTH CHINA NINETY which got its head on the side and hung in. After this, SOUTH CHINA NINETY continued to hang in and before the 400 Metres shifted to the rail when only just clear of MILLION CHASE which as a result was again momentarily steadied. Just prior to the winning post, CHAMP DE UNION was bumped by SOUTH CHINA NINETY which shifted out. R Fradd (GREAT IDEA) explained he had intended to ride the horse in about 4th or 5th position if possible. He explained at the horse's last start it began very awkwardly and consequently raced well back, however, he was concerned if he were to ride the horse at the rear tonight, it would be difficult for him to find running through the field. He said GREAT IDEA tonight began very well, he immediately took hold in the hope of being able to shift across and find cover behind BUDDIES SPIRIT, however, he was unable to do so when SOUTH CHINA NINETY held his position towards his inside. He said because of this GREAT IDEA raced three wide and without cover until about the 500 Metres. He said when left without cover, GREAT IDEA proved very difficult to settle. He said because GREAT IDEA had proved difficult to settle throughout the race, it failed to close the race off tonight. The explanation submitted by R Fradd was accepted. Mr T W Leung, the trainer of THE GRAND ROOF, explained he had instructed H K Yim, the horse's rider, to be in the 2nd or 3rd position. He said these riding instructions were consistent with those given to C Williams who rode the horse at its last start, however, on that occasion THE GRAND ROOF began awkwardly and got much further back than was intended. He said tonight THE GRAND ROOF began best and was able to cross to the fence in the lead and travelled comfortably throughout. He attributed the horse's improved performance tonight to the fact that it was racing in Class 4 and after beginning well had been able to race comfortably in a prominent position. GREAT IDEA, THE GRAND ROOF and BUDDIES SPIRIT were sent for sampling.
