Racing Incident Report

GOLDEN MAPLE, which was standing badly, was slow to begin and immediately taken across behind runners to a position on the rail. SUNNY WIN began awkwardly. SOLAR began awkwardly and shortly afterwards dipped. In the early stages, THE ONLY ONE raced wide and without cover. Near the 1200 Metres, BEING FAMOUS became unbalanced when momentarily crowded for room inside SPEEDING MOLLY. BEING FAMOUS then shifted out, this caused some inconvenience to KINGSTON GLORY. After the 400 Metres, HARRY HARRY got its head up when momentarily crowded for room between KINGSTON GLORY and THE ONLY ONE which shifted in when only just clear. Near the 300 Metres, SOLAR became unbalanced after initially being bumped by NOBLE WIND which shifted out when racing tight outside OSCAR STAR which shifted slightly. When SOLAR was bumped, it then shifted out and made contact with BEING FAMOUS, causing that horse to be turned in and shift ground, resulting in SOLAR being checked. In the circumstances, no action was taken. Near the winning post, HARRY HARRY shifted out and bumped DANDY BUNNY. After this, HARRY HARRY was not ridden out. C Williams (MAMOUSKA) explained he had been instructed to ride the horse behind the leaders if possible. He said he had noticed from reviewing the horse's previous runs it was often a little slow to begin. He said today MAMOUSKA again did not leave the gates cleanly which allowed SPEEDING MOLLY which was drawn to his outside to immediately cross it. He said he then rode MAMOUSKA along for a short distance, shifted across to the inside of KINGSTON GLORY and gradually improved his position to follow BEING FAMOUS in the run, however, he was further back than he had been instructed. He said the only other alternative to him was to follow THE ONLY ONE in the early stages, however, as the race panned out, in his opinion he definitely made the correct decision to shift in as THE ONLY ONE was caught wide without cover in the early stages. He said he then continued to race to the inside of KINGSTON GLORY and behind BEING FAMOUS and in the early part of the Straight endeavoured to shift to the outside of BEING FAMOUS to obtain clear running, was unable to do so and was held up on the heels of that horse for some distance. GOLDEN MAPLE was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. After the race, GOLDEN MAPLE was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said there were no significant findings. SPEEDING MOLLY and NOBLE WIND were sent for sampling. After the race, it was reported NOBLE WIND had blood present at the left nostril. An endoscopic examination was carried out which showed the horse's trachea to be clean and therefore it was not deemed to have bled. Following the race, D Boeuf (DANDY BUNNY) reported the horse was not striding out as he thought it should. The horse was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said there were no significant findings.
Additional Veterinary Reports (released on 2 February 2004)
After the race, D Boeuf, the rider of DANDY BUNNY, reported that the horse was not striding out as he thought it should. The horse was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said there were no significant findings. DANDY BUNNY was again examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer at the stables of Trainer S T Wong this morning. He said at this time the horse was noted to have "jarred up" in both fore fetlocks and was moving stiffly behind. Before being allowed to race again, DANDY BUNNY will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
