Racing Incident Report
CARRY THE NEWS was withdrawn on 26.1.04 on veterinary grounds (lame left fore) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter TURF LUCK. Before being permitted to race again, CARRY THE NEWS will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. As the gates opened, TOY QUEST stood back and consequently lost a lot of ground at the start. On jumping, STRATEGUS, which had been intended to be ridden from a rearward position tonight from its wide gate, got its head up. Also on jumping, PRINCE GOLF was bumped by GOOD TRIO which shifted in. For some distance after the 200 Metres, ARMONDO was crowded for room between KING OF FISH which shifted out and GOOD TRIO which was hanging in. After the 200 Metres, FLYING SUCCESS was shifted to the outside to obtain clear running. Over the concluding stages, STRATEGUS was crowded for room between WELL BEST and PRINCE GOLF and because of this was not ridden out to the line as it normally would be. Almost right on the winning post, TRICCOLO was awkwardly placed close to the heels of KING OF FISH and because of this was not ridden to the line as it normally would be. G Schofield (WELL BEST), which was stepping up in distance to 1650 Metres tonight, said it was the intention to ride the horse quietly and ensure it was settled in the hope it would close the race off. He said WELL BEST was slow to begin, he immediately shifted across to the rail and followed FLYING SUCCESS in the race, then after straightening he rode his mount along hands and heels to improve his position, the horse commenced to close off nicely. He said however over the final 100 Metres he was unable to obtain clear running between GOOD TRIO and FLYING SUCCESS and therefore was not properly tested. The explanation submitted by G Schofield was accepted. ARABIAN WAGER, KING OF FISH and FLYING SUCCESS were sent for sampling.
