Racing Incident Report
When being presented to be weighed prior to the race, the Senior Veterinary Officer noted EASY PUNCH was lame in the right front leg. Acting on his advice, the Stewards ordered the withdrawal of EASY PUNCH. Before being permitted to race again, EASY PUNCH will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. After being boxed, CHAMP DE UNION became fractious, just prior to the start being effected lunged forward, broke open the front gate of its stalls momentarily before the remainder of the gates opened, then began very awkwardly and lost ground. KE JIA WANG and EASTKOWLOON SPIRIT were slow to begin. HORACE'S HORSE began awkwardly. Near the 800 Metres, the saddle on HEALTHY HEART shifted forward over the horse's wither. This placed K McEvoy, its rider, at a considerable disadvantage for the remainder of the race. Also near the 800 Metres, GOLDEN STRIDE was bumped by EVEREST which shifted in. At the 600 Metres, GOLDEN STRIDE became unbalanced when awkwardly placed close to the heels of HEALTHY HEART. WELL EXPRESS became unbalanced coming off the Home Turn and shifted wider on the track. Making the Home Turn, GOLDEN STRIDE was again awkwardly placed close to the heels of HEALTHY HEART. Near the 200 Metres, KE JIA WANG was checked when crowded for room between CHAMP DE UNION and WELL EXPRESS, both of which shifted ground. For some distance approaching and passing the 200 Metres, HORACE'S HORSE was held up and unable to obtain clear running between AHEAD A HEAD and KING'S SUCCESS which was giving ground. After the 200 Metres, KING'S SUCCESS was bumped by EASTKOWLOON SPIRIT which shifted out slightly. After the 100 Metres, GOLDEN STRIDE was steadied and shifted out around the heels of ELETTARIN to continue going forward. Throughout the race, AHEAD A HEAD raced three wide outside the lead without cover and in the Straight hung in and proved difficult to ride. D Whyte (KING'S SUCCESS) was unable to offer any explanation for the poor performance of the horse. He said he enjoyed a comfortable run outside the lead after having to make use of the horse to obtain that position in the early stages. He said when he attempted to improve after the 400 Metres KING'S SUCCESS did not respond to his riding. He said after the race KING'S SUCCESS appeared sound in its action. KING'S SUCCESS was sent for a clinical veterinary examination and sampling. A veterinary examination of KING'S SUCCESS after the race did not show any significant findings. Before being allowed to race again, KING'S SUCCESS will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. EASTKOWLOON SPIRIT and ELETTARIIN were sent for sampling.
