Racing Incident Report

After being boxed, EMPEROR UNICORN became fractious, kicked out and momentarily had its right hind leg caught on a partition in the barriers. The horse was removed from the stalls and examined by the Veterinary Surgeon who said in his opinion it was suitable to race. TUSITALA and SPIRITUAL KING were slow to begin. SUPER COMBED, which was standing with its head turned to the right, was also slow to begin. Making the turn out of the Straight on the first occasion, STEP FORWARD was held three wide by ENORMOUS WAY which remained racing one off the fence. Shortly after this, TUSITALA was bumped by ENORMOUS WAY which remained racing tight inside STEP FORWARD. Making the turn at the 700 Metres, FOOD LOVER was checked when awkwardly placed close to the heels of TWEET which shifted out slightly after bumping the running rail and tight inside THISTLEJADE. No action was taken. At the 400 Metres, TWEET was steadied when crowded for room between WAIALAE WIN and ENORMOUS WAY, both of which shifted ground. Over the concluding stages, STEP FORWARD, which was giving ground, hung out. G Mossé (WAIALAE WIN) was reminded of his obligation to ride his mounts out at least hands and heels to the end of the race. STEP FORWARD, PRODIGY and TUSITALA were sent for sampling. After the race, the Veterinary Officer noted YELLOW DRAGON to be bleeding from the mouth. Also after the race, it was noted ENORMOUS WAY had sustained a laceration to the right hind hock.
