Racing Incident Report
PLENTY OF LUCK was a little slow to begin, shortly after the start was crowded for room between GOLDEN SPIRIT and ACE ACADEMY which on jumping shifted out. ORIENTAL was slow to begin. WYNDAM POWER began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped the inside gate of its stall. Passing the winning post on the first occasion, GOLDEN SPIRIT got its head up when being steadied away from the heels of SMART WIN which steadied in front. When GOLDEN SPIRIT got its head up, it shifted out and this caused some crowding to BRAVE COMMANDER. For the major part of the race, WYNDAM POWER raced wide and without cover and making the turn at the 600 Metres hung out. Making the Home Turn, PLENTY OF LUCK steadied to avoid the heels of ETERNAL START which was giving ground. After the 400 Metres, CHAMPION SPEED (L Dettori) broke down and was eased out of the race. When L Dettori dismounted from CHAMPION SPEED, he sustained an injury to his right ankle. As L Dettori was indisposed as a result of this injury and was taken to hospital for precautionary X-rays, an inquiry into the reason for CHAMPION SPEED breaking down was adjourned until before the running of Race 1 at the Sha Tin Racecourse next Sunday 14 December 2003. For some distance approaching and passing the 200 Metres, FLYING KENNY was held up and unable to obtain clear running behind DRAGON WIN. To obtain clear running, near the 100 Metres FLYING KENNY shifted out, this caused some inconvenience to ORIENTAL. S Dye (BRAVE COMMANDER) said he had been instructed to lead or take up a forward position on the horse if possible. He said after being boxed BRAVE COMMANDER became fractious which is unusual for the horse and then at no stage of the race which was its first at Happy Valley did the horse travel. S Dye was unable to offer any explanation for the poor performance of BRAVE COMMANDER. BRAVE COMMANDER was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. A veterinary examination of BRAVE COMMANDER after the race did not show any significant findings. PLENTY OF LUCK, ACE ACADEMY and TIRAMISU were sent for sampling.
Additional Veterinary Reports (released on 11 December 2003)
BRAVE COMMANDER, which performed poorly, was examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer. He said at that time there were no significant findings. BRAVE COMMANDER was again examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer at the stables of Trainer C Fownes this morning and at this time was noted to be lame in the right hind leg. Before being allowed to race again, BRAVE COMMANDER will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
