Racing Incident Report

Due to an electrical malfunction, the bell which signifies the start of the race did not sound when the start was effected. ETERNAL FUN was withdrawn on 1.12.03 on veterinary grounds (right front tendon injury) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter TUSITALA. Before being allowed to race again, ETERNAL FUN will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. KID GALAXY began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped the hindquarters of CHINA WORLD. TUSITALA and TELECOM BABE were slow to begin. MAGIC TOUCH began awkwardly, resulting in G Schofield, its rider, becoming unbalanced. At the 1400 Metres, TUSITALA was steadied away from the heels of GOOD BOY which shifted in when only just clear. In the early stages, FANTASTIC HORSE was ridden to go forward, however, was obliged to race wide and without cover until being able to shift across to race outside the leader at the 1100 Metres. S Dye (ACE ACADEMY) said after entering the Back Straight he positioned himself to make his run around the field from a rearward position as is usual, however, near the 900 Metres TUSITALA shifted out in front of him to be three wide and MAGIC TOUCH shifted wider in front of TUSITALA. He said he did not believe it would be in the best interest of ACE ACADEMY to make his run around the field in a six wide position from the 600 Metres considering the horse was carrying 130 lbs, therefore he shifted back to the inside of TUSITALA and remained close to the rail. He said after entering the Home Straight ACE ACADEMY responded to his riding and made nice ground through the field until being held up for some distance approaching and passing the 200 Metres when unable to improve between MR PRESIDENT and FANTASTIC HORSE which was giving ground. He said to obtain running he steadied ACE ACADEMY and shifted it to the outside of BURST TO VICTORY. The explanation submitted by S Dye was accepted. Apprentice K T Yeung (GOOD BOY) said he had ridden the horse in track work last Monday and in his opinion this work was satisfactory. He said he had been instructed to ride GOOD BOY in 4th or 5th position if possible tonight, however, at no stage of the race did GOOD BOY travel well, got much further back than intended and in his opinion was disappointing. He was unable to offer any explanation for the performance of GOOD BOY. GOOD BOY was sent for a clinical veterinary examination and sampling. After the race, GOOD BOY was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said there were no significant findings. TABBRIS was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. A veterinary examination of TABBRIS after the race did not show any significant findings. CYBER GULCH and MAGIC TOUCH were sent for sampling.
