Racing Incident Report
When being saddled, it was noted PRESENT TREASURE had loosened a tooth. The horse was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon and after the necessary consultations was considered suitable to race. When the gates opened, BABY KING sat back and consequently lost a significant amount of ground. SUPREME STAR began awkwardly and got its head up. RECOVERY began awkwardly, then shortly after the start shifted in and caused some inconvenience to A PLUS FIT. SPIRITUAL KING was slow to begin and then began awkwardly. Near the 1000 Metres, SUPREME STAR got its head up when being steadied away from the heels of PRESENT TREASURE. At the 1000 Metres, A PLUS FIT was steadied when crowded for room between PRESENT TREASURE and MONEY EXPRESS. At the 600 Metres, PRESENT TREASURE became badly unbalanced when crowded for room between AFICIONADO and MONEY EXPRESS (J Quinn) which got its head on the side and shifted in slightly. In the circumstances, J Quinn was severely reprimanded for having the runners on his inside racing in restricted room leading up to this incident. A PLUS FIT made the turn after the 600 Metres awkwardly and hung out. After the 600 Metres, BEAMING RIVER was steadied when awkwardly placed inside the heels of PRESENT TREASURE. In the Straight, HIGHLAND DAWN hung in and proved difficult to ride out. C Williams (BEAMING RIVER) said the horse only has a short finishing burst and because of this he did not place it under full pressure after straightening. He said approaching the 200 Metres he considered shifting to the inside of RECOVERY to obtain clear running, however, he was concerned to do so he might cause inconvenience to AFICIONADO, therefore he persevered for a run on the outside of RECOVERY and on the inside of HIGHLAND DAWN. The explanation of C Williams was accepted. Y T Cheng (BUMPER SUPREME), which was to be ridden in a rearward position tonight from the outside gate, explained on jumping he immediately took hold of the horse, it got its head up when being shifted across behind runners to a position close to the rail. He said making the turn at the 1000 Metres BUMPER SUPREME hung out and lost further ground, then in the Back Straight the horse continued to hang and proved difficult to ride, consequently got further back than he had anticipated. He said in his opinion the horse did not appreciate racing behind other runners tonight and at the 800 Metres was unbalanced in its action and because of this he looked down at its legs. He said the horse continued to hang out until straightening when he was able to ride it along and the horse did make some ground. The explanation of Y T Cheng was noted. BUMPER SUPREME was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. A veterinary examination of BUMPER SUPREME after the race did not show any significant findings. A PLUS FIT was sent for a clinical veterinary examination and sampling. After the race, A PLUS FIT was examined by the Veterinary Officer. No abnormalities were detected. ASSET PLAY and BEAMING RIVER were sent for sampling.
Additional Veterinary Report (released on 27 November 2003)
BUMPER SUPREME, which performed poorly, was examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer. He said at that time there were no significant findings. BUMPER SUPREME was again examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer at the stables of Trainer Y O Wong this morning and at this time was found to have a very stiff and restricted hind limb action. Before being allowed to race again, BUMPER SUPREME will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
